But you can't have two offensively inept players around a foundation of Tracy and Yao. Tracy and Yao aren't good enough to carry the load where you can justify the lack of offensive abilities coming from the role players. This is not a "Bruce Bowen" or "Mario Elie" situation. The foundation of this team isn't good enough to make such comparisons.
Thank you! That's my point, I can understand if we would have Lebron, D Wade, or Kobe as our foundation but we have none of them and our 2 best players are so up in the air as far as health goes that we can't get any type of flow going within our team.
here is a trade that will work for battier....just got to hope that washington is looking to cut some money.... Posey was also known as a defensive minded player, but he will take and make shots and or plays. The other night against NO, he posted shane up and scored over the top, yet people talk about what he brings. Someone compared Shane to Chuck as players. If that's the case, that's a problem.1 guy was drafted #6, college bb player of the yr. The other guy wasn't drafted, undersized and unathletic. Oh did I mention he was traded for the #8 and a player. I said it at the time it was a poor option when they traded for the guy. It was nothing I had seen, especially both guys coming off not completing the season and winding up in the lotto that told me they were good enough to take a 10ppg guy. The Lakers had injury issues the yr after Shaq left and wound up with the #8 and took Bynum. When he showed promise, they wouldn't even trade for J.Kidd with Kobe in their ear. They thought Shane could be the 3rd guy. The guy that could regain his rookie for and avg 14-16 pts while providing some defense. What they got is a guy that hasn't got better in any aspect of his game since his rookie yr. If he's better in anything since his rookie yr, show me. If its anything he has gotten better at since becoming a rocket, tell me that.
I never said anything about which player is more valuable or better offensive player. I said Battier is a better defensive player. His defense is smart and effective. He does not make defensive choices that burn the team.
This is true. T-Mac and Yao just aren't good/consistent enough anymore to carry the load for a bunch of scrubs. In theory, it would be nice for Battier to not have to worry about offense, but our core players aren't playing up to par so he has to. That's one reason we brought in Artest, but for most of the season he was shooting at a 34% clip or something terrible like that. He just didn't have his rythm.
It amazes me how much of a free pass Battier gets on here. Why is he above criticism? I do understand the Battier cult is very strong and they will come after you with a vengence if you criticize their infallible leader. I criticized him in a game thread a while back and I had like ten people jump all over me. They attacked me for criticizing Battier and made a ton of excuses for his poor play. It's obvious as leebigez stated that he is on the decline and has been on the decline since he came into the league. Him and Rafer on the court is like 3 on 5 on offense. Shane doesn't give you anything consistenly on the offensive end except the corner 3, which hasn't been falling this year. If it's a 2 on 1 fast break, Battier will run to the corner instead of the basket. He likes to run around like a chicken with his head cut off to make it seem like he's doing something, but in reality, he's not. He can't dribble a basketball, is unathletic, and is NOT a glue guy. He's not a bad team defender, but the Rockets were a good defensive team before he got here. As BrooksBall points out, 2nd & 3rd tier wing players like McCants, Salmons, Thornton are burning this guy. Wasn't he getting outplayed by Nick Young last night too? Nick Young? Are you serious? I don't wanna hear any excuses. Trying hard isn't enough when you can't produce due to a lack of talent. Being a good guy doesn't win you basketball games. It's obvious this trade was a failure, but it's not too late to salvage the situation. Trade Battier to Portland for Outlaw and Frye NOW. The addition of Artest and his defense sort of makes Battier redundant. Artest is an actual glue guy who is a lockdown defender and while Shane is better at chasing a wing around the court and fighting through screens and such, I would take my chances with Ron Ron.
the trade was made to add a player that can play defense and made deffensive plays made the three point shot and some inside the paint shots go to the boards in offense and defense that the main reason battier is here if we would want a tracy mcgrady type scorer only and some times made a great deffensive play ( but of ten would do three or two ) we would have keep rudy gay the question would be if we would keep rudy gay we would have keep mcgrady
This team and it's coach are jokes. I'm waiting until 2010 to be honest. At least Battier is a professional though. He's a solid role player on a Championship team (which we aren't). Artest may have strung together a few good games, but he is a huge problem too. I'm so sick of Yao being soft, Artest and TMac trading vaction days, ect..... I'm not worried about Alston and Battier because they are irrelevant with this group. The sooner you figure that out, the better off you'll be.
I said they are scorers, not that they are currently playing like it. If you think Tracy and Barry are NOT scorers, you have no idea what you're talking about.
Why don't you address all the shortcomings and criticisms of Battier that have been brought up in this thread? Artest at least produces on both ends of the court and has results to show for it while Shane is playing like garbage. Also, nobody has been using Artest's injury as an excuse unlike everybody making a ton of excuses for Battier's poor play. No way he was worth the #8 pick. The trade was a failure. Trade him for Outlaw and Frye now.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/featur...85~692~2792&teams=27~15~15~10~10~27&te=&cash= I like this trade with battier and tracy involved the best....Only thing we would not be players in the 2010 sweepstakes
Battier's defense has been down this year. Severely. Guys are getting past him at will it seems, and his hand-in-the-face deferral towards actually trying to get the block has not worked as well. Let's give him time though. The past few years he's been top 5 in DPOY rankings, and unlike T-Mac the doctors are the ones making the decisions to hold him back. All will be forgiven if he can make a complete recovery by playoff time.
Lol Head? Come on now, he is not even consistently in the rotation. Last time he played he was playing very good in the 1st half but coach decided to leave him on the bench in the 2nd half.
Battier has gotten plenty of criticism since joining the Rockets. Saying he gets a free pass on the forum is totally wrong. Shane is what he is and that's all what he is. You know what to expect from him every night (except this season because of the injury). The only thing that varies is his 3-point shot, but overall it is very good. Those of you who would accept Outlaw for Battier don't realize Outlaw has oatmeal for brains. I watch every Blazers game and the guy seems to have regressed from last season. I truly believe he is in the bottom 15% of NBA players when it comes to intelligence. If he became a Rocket, he would get lit up on this forum for the numerous dumb decisions he makes every game, even when his shot is on. The Blazers never know what to expect from the guy. He is too dumb to learn what a good shot is vs. a bad shot. He blows more defensive assignments than just about anybody I've seen play. It's been said the best thing for him is when he "doesn't think". What does that tell you? Outlaw is truly fools gold. When Martell Webster gets back, the Blazers will dump or package Outlaw to the highest bidder. They've given up on him and he isn't part of their long-term plans. He's like Stromile Swift except (1) he really does have talent and (2) he actually exerts himself while on the court.
When did Barry become a scorer? I'm just saying. Tracy is a scorer and a decision maker. Barry is a spotup shooter and decision maker. The problem is that they would be better be more efficient if they attacked the basket. When guys don't fear the hoop attack, it cuts your effectiveness down That's what Tracy is facing right now. Guys are playing him for the jumper and not he drive. If he had his drive, his jumper and playmaking would be even better.
