Any of you who still have their heads stuck in the sand defending Adelman, please explain tonight? I dare you to defend him. And don't give me any garbage about it's just one game, blah, blah, blah. This coach has lost his mind.
yea shame on Adelman for putting in our supposed championship caliber starting lineup! he should just tell T-Mac and Yao to sit out every game!
This game illustrated perfectly the dillema with this team... The starters (the "best" players) will never be able to run his offense. Yao doesn't have the mobility and "quick" thinking skills, McGrady isn't a catch and shoot/move without the ball player, and Alston is a borderline game manager. The bench, with far less talent, runs a system that allows them to get open shots and easy layups. Of course, against a good team, the bench would get neutralized... but against bad teams like the Wizards, the bench can have some great moments running his system. Regardless, when the starters have to come back in, Adelman is forced to do things he doesn't really have much experience in. How would he know whether or not to continue to feed Yao... his best ever post-up center was Kevin Duckworth. Either they need a better big-man coach than Sikma (Yao likely missed Tibedeaux the most), or Adelman simply needs to do a better job of grasping what his starters are capable of while running a pretty bland/basic system.
That was a great shot a 3 foot shot...basically uncontested....Yao choked it. But it should have never come down to that shot....the team didn't compete. DD
That wasn't a great shot, because Yao was the one taking it, if it was Ron than it would of been explainable, but Yao!
How many more times does Adelman have to put in the starters over the squad that brought them back into the game?! Say whatever you want about JVG, but I swear if he had THIS team we would be doing a lot better. He would be getting more out of T-Mac and wouldn't make bonehead decisions like this over and over again. JVG's style may not have been pretty - but hey, I have yet to see this magical fluid offense of Adelman's.
Another thing I'm worried about: This team has looked FLAT for a good week... a sign of a team that is eithe tired, or starting to tune out the coach (assuming the coach is trying to motivate them). Or maybe Adelman simply doesn't try to instill that killer instinct. Maybe he leaves it up to the players (which is a perfectly fine coaching tactic). The only problem with that.... this group won't be able to do it by themselves. They need a coach who can instill some mental toughness and intestinal fortitude. Besides Artest, this team is full of pansies and undersized midgets. This team better get a win streak in them real soon... otherwise the mis-match of coach/roster is going to really irk me.
People keep saying Adelman will learn from his mistakes, but to make the same mistake THREE TIMES in a very short span of games in clutch moments is something that can NOT be overlooked. We do a great job of holding players responsible, but I will SQUARELY put two of our recent losses on crucial substitution mistakes by the head coach. Does coach Adelman have any associations with Tim Doneghy? JK but I am seriously pissed at him, this was the straw that broke the camel's back.
This loss should be taken like a punch in the gut to every player, coach, and ball boy of this team. This is gut check time. This team is obviously distracted by something. Adelman is trying to make chicken soup out of chicken **** at this point, he never knows who he's going to have available. I'm disgusted at the effort by this team tonight. Disgusted.
Pretty frustrating to watch Yao continue to miss shots in the 4th quarter that he normally makes in the 1st half. The Rockets are only good as their best players, and Yao and McGrady aren't great, they are just decent. They don't display the swagger that they should every night. Decent players don't win championships. Rockets should advance in the playoffs but their is no reason to believe they will be considered a serious threat to the title until Yao and McGrady start coming to play every night. Artest is the Rockets best leader.
To be honest, I've been defending Adelman, but if it was JVG, he would not have forced the ball to Yao Ming. Adelman is making bad decisions at this stage, just really bad decisions. Yao has not been hot throughout the entire game, he was horrible. Then we have the Jazz game, where going to Yao in the fourth isn't working. It took a long while before we started going to Artest, I thought we learnt from that mistake. Today again, we went to Yao the fourth, it's not working. I thought we had another wakeup call when McGrady hit the shot to put us within 2. Somehow, we went to Yao again. Why???
Number one. The Rockets are not guaranteed to make the playoffs. Given the way they've played of late, they are not going to make the playoffs at all. Number two. Even if they make the playoffs, they will not advance. This team is too soft and too lazy at important places.
You know, this is getting just sad. We are losing our defensive intensity. I've never ever seen so many easy layups during the JVG era. What's worse however, is that the offense is looking even worse than JVGs. That's why RA is doing a bad coaching job. All of you who wanted a fast smooth and flowing motion offense must be really pissed. I'm just upset we are not getting the job done, i don't care who plays, I just want Ws.
I DARE ANYONE, to tell me Van Gundy would have NOT gone to Yao for the last shot. I DARE anyone to tell me Van Gundy would have drawn up a play for Brent Barry or Ron Artest. Or is that the point of the thread, that Adelman should do something different. Adelman should have had a "motion" offense play instead of going down to Yao in the low post. It all ends up being he same thing, our stars either not making the last key play,or not even being mentally into the game enough. So if Tim Duncan woulda missed the last second shot against the Rockets that won the game for the Spurs, would Spurs fans clamour to say Popovich should have went to Roger Mason or George Hill instead? But Popovich is "championship caliber", I get it...If Popovich had Yao and went to him itda been a champion's decision... I'm not exactly defending Adelman, I'm defending the rationale of going to your best player for the last shot. Now if you want to talk about the decisions that got them where they NEEDED to have a last shot......
JVG might not have gone to him if he was cold. He probably would've gone to TMAC. With JVG, TMAC took almost all the last second shots. What I don't like about Adelman is that his offense seems even less creative than JVG's. He was brought in here to bring us "exciting" Pho Suns type basketball, and he hasn't delivered. Adelman also seems to go to YAO more than JVG did. JVG rode TMAC alot more than Adelman does.
