this isn't really about HDTV but I am wondering is the Express internet package from U-Verse(1.5Mbps downstream 1 Mbps upstream) good enough for online gaming? I have my PS3 hooked up via wireless internet to the router which is on the floor above it.
Well U-verse is here. HD picture is meh compared to OTA HD. While it's better than SD by far I can still see blocky and jittery detail in the picture. I was at a friend's house last night and was watching DirecTV HD and the image looked flawless. Needless to say I'm sad.
Has Uverse changed it where you can have moer than one HD stream at a time? That was a deal killer for me, that and the fact that I've heard from more than several people that the HD content isn't as sharp as satellite.
Friend of mine with U-verse has reported the same thing. He says his HD picture isn't anywhere close to as sharp as what I get with DirecTV. If you want the best picture, get DirecTV.
Master Baiter, yes, you can now view or record 2 HD feeds. I can't talk about DirecTV HD, since I have NEVER seen it, but OTA will ALWAYS be better than any satellite or cable feed.
That's been upgraded for a while now. You get two HD streams and maximum of four in total, and you can use all of them on the same box simultaneously if you wish. I find the HD quality to be somewhat on par with cable -- cable *might* be marginally better. I think satellite HD is always going to be superior to wired transmission for the most part, unless you have true FTTC which Uverse doesn't (yet). But at the same time I don't think the difference is really significant or important enough for it to be a major factor in decision making. This much is true: U-verse definitely offers superior value to cable every way you look at it. And satellite is never going to be able to give you the same kind of broadband internet connectivity you'll get from cable or U-verse, especially with the latency problems.
I may have ot move to DirecTV then, but don't you have to buy the equipment from them? The box and the satellite? Installation is free though isn't it? I think the quality could be overlooked if my TV wasn't so big that it just amplifies the flaws. It's much more bearable on my 24" Dell monitor although for some odd reason the HD won't display in 1080i. It can only display in 720p. Weird.
I don't want to start a new thread for this since we've had so many, but are these pretty much all the tv providers in the Houston area... Comcast ATT Uverse DirecTV Dish Network and what about high speed internet... Comcast ATT Roadrunner I'm moving into a new apt. soon and I don't want to spend more than $100 for both (preferably less). Unfortunately I don't think ATT cable is offered where I'm living, and I dread going with Comcast just because they offer both cable and internet. So are there good, affordable options to get each separately (like DirecTV and Roadrunner but cheaper)? Edit: I'd like something that I can get at least the network channels in HD at a decent price.
anyone care to update if they've had any problems with uverse since switching from comcast? Is it cheaper for the same services? Also, do they offer nbatv? I didn't see it on their channel line up. Thanks
No NBA TV. Dip**** who set up my internet set me up wireless (I wasn't here for the install, my brother was) and I keep losing signals and have to call to get this fixed. To set up a direct link they want to charge me a $39.99 service fee plus additional fees if there are wiring problems. I can rarely get my VOD to work. I was sick last week and tried, unsuccessfully to watch Spider Man 3 on four separate days. When recording something via DVR in HD I can only watch one channel in HD in any other room. It has to be the same channel in any room, or else, NADA! HD is not comparable to Comcast imo. I'm paying more, but I am getting more channels. If they go through with their 150GB bandwidth cap, I'm going back to cable, Fast.
well we're about to make the switch to uverse from comcast, because there is no way in hell uverse can be any worse than the stinking pile of **** that is comcast
Changed over in October. I'm satisfied except not having NBA TV is a killer. I'll stay with them 6-12 months and re-evaluate.
I'm able to record 2 HD channels and still watch another HD channel with my u-verse. HD quality is definitely not on par with other services. I read that the U-verse boxes have problems with HDMI with the black levels and colors. I seemed to have that problem and it did seem to be corrected when i switched to component. Features and flexibility are nice but I think I will eventually move to DirecTV for TV though. Internet @ 6mbps is pretty good. I'm experiencing some lag times but not sure if that's with my PC or their internet. Still working on finding the cause.
What if the only thing you care about is quantity and quality of HD channels? U-Verse, Dish, or Comcast?
