How low could we drop in the draft if we end up with the 5th worst record?

    Technically, the Rockets can get the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th picks.

We could get one of the top three picks, or pick anywhere from 5 to 8. So #8 is the worst pick we could get. 6th pick is probably most probable, but I haven't ran the numbers.

I believe 8th is the lowest it can be. And that is only if the 3 lottery winners were all teams outside of the worst 3 records in the league.

The odds of this happening are very slim. Three teams with better record then ours (i.e. NY, Washington, Miami) would all have to get really lucky and land in the top three. This would then push down the Warriors, Bulls, Grizzlies and Nuggets. We are behind these last four teams and thus we would get the 8th pick. HIGHLY HIGHLY UNLIKELY!

I agree with Clutch's assessment that the Rockets will most likely end up with the #6 pick. It just seems like every year a team that finishes #7-9 ends up with a top 3 pick. I can still see us getting either the #5, #3, or #7 picks. The other possibilities are less likely, in my opinion.

Well I'm too tired and lazy to run numbers right now but I can click and count :p I tried the lottery generator 100 times and this is what I got:

    #1 - 9
    #2 - 11
    #3 - 13
    #5 - 33
    #6 - 28
    #7 - 6
    #8 - 0

So we appear to have equal chances to get a top 3 selection, the 5th pick, or fall to the 6th or 7th picks. I was suprised by the distrubution in the top 3. I thought there would be fewer number ones and more threes. According to Clutch, there's only a 2 pct difference between picking 1st and 3rd so I guess that's roughly right.

Okay, I missed this but can someone explain to me why we cannot wind up with the 4th position in the draft?

Assuming we dont get picked in the top 3, the highest we can get is 5...once the top 3 are determined, then the rest is determined by record..being that we are #5 in record, thats the highest we can get if we dont get into the top 3

conversely, if 3 teams which have better records than we do end up in the top 3 (ie NY, Mia and Milw), then we can pick as low as 8

    Thanks, NJRocket.

I should have known that, but I forgot about it.

Holy Crap! It's rigged! I just went to the generator and got the Knicks picking first, and the Rockets 6th.

If used right, a Top 6 pick and a #14 or #15 pick can get us to the playoffs next year! I'm assuming that it's still possible for the Rockets to "steal" the #1 pick overall in the drawing, but it would be sweet to sneak into the Top 3. If the Rockets get the #1 pick overall, or a Top 3 pick, I think this BBS would crash and burn to the ground in flames.

Well ok...I should have worded that better. I was being lazy in that I should have been cleaning my apartment and doing some paperwork. Instead I pressed refresh 100 times. Seemed like the easisest thing to do to take away any sort of guilt :D

How come when I generated the lotto, the Suns wound up in the top 3 more than the Rockets. Most of the time, Houston finished 7th.
