T-Mac and Yao's contracts are expired then. What do you guys think will happen?

I think Yao will def. re-sign. I think T-mac will retire like he said 2 years ago. He said he still has dreams of playing baseball and I think he will strive for those dreams.

But can the Rockets sign another star?

Stop making useless threads like this when it is totally irrelevant to anything going on right now.
Not to mention that the subject has been beaten to death.

No one cares about stupid theories about 2010, just wait until it is at least 2009 before you start worrying about '10

Whatever happens, I can't wait. Morey will make the right moves. From what we've seen so far (getting Scola, Landry, Brooks, Artest) I think Morey has a good understanding of what kind of players we need psychologically. This team is going to undergo a real shift in attitude once the last remnants of the JVG years (Rafer, Hayes, Head, maybe T-Mac too) departs.

It almost makes you wonder: would sports teams have benefited by having free agents/draft picks play some random game like ping-pong, just to see if they come on strong late or wither like a dandelion under the hot summer pressure? Cause I have friends that go both ways; some are super-competitive and some are just career chokers in everything they do.

True.We want a championship since we got T-Mac and Yao in here, and I still remember what T-Mac said on that press conference.'Something great gonna happen in Houston!'.

Well,we wait long enough,I bet it's our chance to take that trophy back home! Before that,no need to worry about who we should pursue 2 years after. ;)

We ain't done yet,not even rebuilding our team.

I can't believe people actually still think T-mac will try to play baseball.

    My dream scenario:

Resign Yao to a smaller contract
Artest to a reasonable contract (next season I believe?)
We DONT resign TMac unless it's 3 or 4 years for no more than 15 million, he's obviously the biggest question mark on the team (AND I'm a Tmac fan btw)
We need to get D Wade. Give him what he wants, he'll bring in the fans, get to the line, be a leader.

    We got to resign Yao.

Let Tmac go or sign him for much less then what he getting paid now. Bring in Dwade.

How about bringing in Joe Johnson, B-Roy or even Amare?

    So many options.

I think Tracy has played (or, more appropriately, not played) his way out of an extension this summer, so I think T-Mac actually might make it to unrestricted free agency in 2010. Ideally, the Rockets will either (a) trade his expiring contract for a near All-Star caliber talentand some smaller (preferably expiring) contracts or (b) re-sign T-Mac to a smaller deal.

Getting Artest this year means that he will likely be re-signed to a large multi-year deal, meaning that there will be far less cap room for the Rockets to work with in 2010.

Yao's extension is a foregone conclusion.

If Morey can re-sign Scola for less than $6.5M per season, then he should do that quickly. If not, he can just sit back and wait, since Scola will be a restricted free agent. Unfortunately, his cap hold will be around $6.7M until he is re-signed.

If Landry has improved enough by then, the Rockets should explore extending him to a multi-year deal. If not, then just exercise the team option for 2010-11 at $3M.

Aaron Brooks will likely be playing on his rookie deal. But Rafer will be a free agent, so the Rockets will need to either re-sign him or find another PG to pair with Brooks. No Mike Bibby fantasies, though. It would have to be another solid but non-spectacular player of similar quality to Rafer (who, despite all the criticism, is a relative bargain).

My guess is that the Rockets don't end up adding another top-notch free agent unless T-Mac is moved or not re-signed. Even then, with Yao, Artest, Battier and Scola's cap hold taking up the majority of the team's cap room, there likely will not be max money available that summer.
