Yes, there is enough money to sign Deke to a veteran minimum contract and still remain under the luxury tax threshold. In the alternative, the Rockets could trade for a minimum salary player from another team and still avoid luxury tax.
I was saying that Doc Rocket is the one who likes to speak in riddles, not Popeye(Oeilpere). Sorry,if I didn't make myself clear.
Suprisingly! Is Steve only worth a second rounder and some cash? WTF! Just kidding! Come on board Deke, we've been waiting for you!
Disappointed he didn't crack the rotation. Not usre about Morey's "training camp" comment but whatever. Time to move on. Hopefully this brings more than just Deke, but if it is only deke then OK.
You have no evidence to say that Steve Francis can not beat Rafer, Brooks, Barry to get any minutes. It's quite obvious that coach RA does not like the way Steve plays. He emphasize a lot ball movement and it won't materialize with Steve. I guess it is why Steve saw little court time last season, and his complete lack of minutes this season. But Steve Francis is worth more than a swap of second-rounder. If he is the focus of the second team, he can contribute a lot more than Rafer, Head, Barry. The owner was too cheap in giving up Steve for nothing. Other than Artest who else in the team has the toughness and competitiveness of Steve, IMHO which is key to success coming playoff time. If Deke is not going to sign with Rockets, this move of dumping Steve is the worst transaction in recent years.
That's right.. Coach Adelman wasn't going to give any minutes to Francis. Francis wasn't going to take any minutes from Rafer, Brooks and Barry. He finally has a chance to contribute to a team and that's great.
I'm actually amazed Morey could pull it off. I mean, it's the equivalent of Memphis giving us 2.65 mil in cash, plus it's 2.65 mil of cap relief. We've proven in the past that you could easily buy second rounders, even 1st rounders with cash, and all they managed to net for this huge favor is a swap of 2nd rounders. I think this move offsets the dumbness of signing Francis in the first place. Great move, Morey. I just hope we could buy a couple of draft picks on Draft day and not go all quiet.
Right at this moment (before the Rox/Hornet tipoff) CCTV 5 is broadcasting a song to complement SF's contribution in helping Yao when he first arrived in the US. The commentators said that the friendship between SF and Yao would always be remembered. If SF were to play in China, I'm sure he would have a very very big fanbase there.
While I'm behind the parting of ways, I don't know if Les sees it quite that good - he had to write a check (cash was included in the deal) to Memphis for what I imagine to be the remainder of Steve's salary or more. But he does get the benefit of part of Steve's salary not costing him double and missing out on the LT profits. So Memphis and Les win in this deal.
Might as well.....didn't seem like we were in any hurry to get him any minutes. Sorry to see him go, but I don't see how it affects our team. Good luck Stevie! You'll always be a Rocket in my book.
http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2008/dec/27/francis-close-to-joining-grizzlies/ Looks like Francis is fit to play, i hope he gets a chance to play in Memphis.
a really bad trade~ my heart is broken for sure, even don't want to watch the game of rockets...........
The next time Memphis plays the Rockets -If Steve has a big game a lot of people on this forum are going to be hot with frustration as to why we could not intergrate atalent of Steve's Caliber into this team. Steve brings an unpredictable style of play, this will be especially needed when we get to the playoffs
I just listened to the audio of Morey, Francis, and Yao speaking about the trade. And honestly, does anyone else sense the maturity and sincerity in ALL of them but most especially in Francis' commentary??? I think a trip around the league to Orlando and then to New York helped make Francis realize how great an organization Houston is and how precious time is too. theSAGE
Glad to hear that Francis is getting a chance. Part of me was hoping that he failed the physical so he could come back to us. But as people said. this trade is good for both parties. Who knows. if Steve shows this season that he stilll has game, maybe he can still finish his career off back in Houston. Although, i'm not sure if Steve would return after being traded twice.
