Any chance the Grizz buy him out and we take him back at the vets minimum? That'd save 1.5mill and allow me to hold on to the fragile hope that one day I might actually see Steve Francis on the basketball court for a good team! Thanks for the memories Stevie!!!
Didn't Portland pay $30 mill to get rid of him? I mean, you can't GIVE the guy away. Anyway, Steve may get PT, so good for him.
If Morey cant get someone good on the next trade, i'll be pissed. But for the SF3 fans, I understand u guys, I also love SF3, but we have to be realistic, he won't get any playing time for us and we needed a big man so SF3 is the most obvious guy to be sacrificed. We gave him a chance by signing him back here, but unfortunately it didn't work out for both parties as SF3 got injured. Changes is needed, but memories created by him at Houston will be remembered
This just proved two things to me: 1) In this years' market, an expiring contract isn't so attractive as expected or Morey really doesn't want to take back salaries committed through 2010. A hint that we might have a real chance in 2010 free agency market and we won't give Tmac extension early on. 2) Mutumbo might be pushing it hard for rocket to sign him or he will sign with boston for a ring and rocket feel the pressure
Merry Christmas everyone! Woke up this morning to see that francis was still traded and I wasn't dreaming yesterday! Such an awesome xmas present. You're the man morey!
No matter what you think of Steve, this was a pretty amazing rabbit out of the hat by Morey to get this team under the luxury tax. I didn't think there would be a one for none taker for Luther, let alone Steve. A very Merry Christmas for Les, me thinks.
Unreal. I guess I should have figured some people would still find ways to hold onto this obsession. He's done, has been done and won't be back.
All you people who think Wink will get cut and come back home in 30 days are being naive. You could read between the lines whenever Morey was asked about Steve the past few months, and sense that the Rockets were not happy with him. Steve has too much money in the bank, he doesn't have the dedication anymore to do what it takes to get himself back in good enough shape to be a rotation player on any team in this league. He's done.
They got their 2nd round pick back for us. That was the only reason for them to make it. Plus the rockets are paying francis's salary. So all grizz give up in this trade is cap space, while getting their draft pick back and not even having to pay steve's salary.
indeed. Good for steve, he was never going to get any play time here, with good reason. He's the 13th-14th best player on the team.
This is the most relevant "pro steve" post in this thread. T-Mac certainly has heart, though. But that was the best thing about steve after his talent went downhill. It's time for the steve-rah-rahs & boo-hoos to end. I'm sure that Morey will bring in the best player to solidify this team for a deep playoff run. This first move into the season was essential to getting anything else done.
I'm a little late to the party... but Merry Christmas! This is great news. One thing that I've been amazed at is the kind of loyalty and admiration that Francis has on a number of fellow Rockets fans. I personally never liked his (awful) style of play and I was really distraught when he was signed the second time. The signs were crystal clear though ... unlike the conspiracy theory that the coach had something against Francis, it is clear that he was in no shape to contribute. Even with Rafer out, and in blowouts, he couldn't smell the pine. Conspiracy? No. He just sucks even more than ever. Glad we were able to find a taker, and good observation on the cash considerations being equal to the amount of salary remaining to him. It is a sensible move by the front office to clear out space underneath the luxury tax, but the effect of it is funny... looks as if we had to pay a team to take Francis off of our hands. For those who expect him to "go off for 50" when he gets to Memphis... I'd say keep hope alive... but its no more than wishful thinking. The dude is WASHED UP. And I am extremely glad that we don't have to see anymore ridiculous posts about "why didn't coach put Francis in??? When will we see Francis???" Uhh. OK, in the schemes of wins & losses, what the heck does it matter whether the 13th guy on the bench actually makes it into the game? I'm slightly inclined to dig up the old threads where people were solidly predicting the comeback of Francis, and how he was gonna prove everyone wrong. Give opportunity for a little crow-eating. But that would only prolong the stupidity and pain, whose end is already long overdue. See you later Stevie, so long and thanks for all the fish. Thanks for a sweet ending to a sad story.
