I think Morey just did Francis a favor, I am sure they didn't trade the guy for basically nothing without talking to him first. Basically Brooks emergence has made Francis expendable, he was not going to get any time here in Houston, and for him to have any chance of resurrecting his career, he needs time on the court. That was not going to happen in Houston. Brooks and Rafer make up a nice 2 man backcourt, when one is struggling the other can come in generally, which leaves no chance for a player like Steve who needs to get on the floor to get his timing back. With the trade to Memphis, Steve has more than half a year to prove to the league that he is not done, and get himself a new contract. In Memphis he should get that chance, as he was not going to get it here in Houston. So, good luck to you Steve, I hope you get your career back..... DD
If Francis can still play this might be a good trade for Francis but I have a hard time believing Rockets management did this for his own good especially since they did this on Christmas Eve and are also saying he showed lack of effort. It wouldn't surprise me if the team only talked to Francis about this very brieflay and pretty much sprung this on him without much discussion.

I take Clutch at his word he got that info from the Rockets but considering that Rockets players were saying Francis was working hard and was positive and that there doesn't seem to be a lot of mention about this makes me suspicious.
I just wanted to know if it was anywhere else Clutch was not SF3's biggest fan but I won't say he is biased. Just wanted see if it was 'widely' reported like MeBury Rocket River
Buy-out, maybe. But PT? Ahead of Conley/Lowry/Mayo? This is strictly a dump to get below the Lux and likely add Deke. As for emergence, it is Head who showed he can give a few quasi-decent minutes at the 1 (heavy on the quasi) which helped seal the deal. So long, Stevie - I truly regret it did not work out. BTW - I kept expecting a medical claim on SF. This must mean it was not agreeable to him.
funny, artest was praising steve yesterday about him not complaining about playing time. of course that's artest, and he wasn't talking about practice.
Agreed. This trade does nothing for SF at all. His NBA career is over. The Grizz will either keep him inactive or buy him out. It's too bad it ended this way, but oh well. I would have hoped this move was discussed and agreed upon so SF and the Rockets would have a good relationship going forward. We'll see what he has to say about it.
To be honest, I dont even think he is going to be getting a lot of playing time. They are already stacked with a bunch of point guards in Lowry, Critteron, and even Conley.
I hope Steve does get a chance. The Grizz look pretty thin at PG... Conley doesn't seem like he was worthy of the 4th pick. Aaron at 23 is better than Conley. I'll always love Steve for showing so much loyalty to our team... even being the rep at the draft lottery when we won the first pick to take Yao.
Walker and Jaric have been glued to the bench. This trade was all about getting back their 2009 second round pick. Depending on how much cash the Rockets gave up Francis might not even cost them.
Francis buy out coming unless the Griz want to re-deal him in February. I don't expect to see him put on a jersey for them once.
A good relationship??? Hahaha they traded him twice. The first time i can understand. He was bought out of his contract and took less money to come back to a place he loved when he was offered more money. Then he gets hurt yeah it happens but then they traded him again for basically nothing. There was something else 2 this story. Why didn't they trade Bob Sura when he was hurt yet they waited to the end of the season for him 2 say he was retiring. Or I believe thats what happened. But at the end there is something else to the story and i believe this will come back and bite them
If you read the latest chron article, I think Morey has something else up his sleeve that is not related to signing Deke. According to Morey, they haven't even reached step 1 of the negotiations with Deke. Morey also said that the move was used to give them the option of taking more salary back in a trade. "This gives us what we wanted which was the flexibility for trades and the ability to take back a little more salary in a trade" http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/6180662.html I am expecting another trade before season's end.
