McGrady = De La Hoya I'm a huge boxing fan and I see a lot of similarities of McGrady and De La Hoya. * Both are considered "superstars" * Both have lost when it counted the most in their careers * Both have huge (BLIND) fan bases due to what they've accomplished in the past And last week's fight against Pacman is a good analogy. * DLH got paid over $20m but really never showed up to fight * Got beat from ring post to ring post from the 1st to the end * Quit on his stool Now people, even his own blind fan base, got mad because he never showed up AND he just quit. I can understand why he quit cuz he could've really gotten hurt if he continued but still many people thought he should've just stayed in the fight and take it like a man and get KTFO. Now for the people that always complain about HEART AND TOUGHNESS, stop watching B-Ball and start watching some boxing. It's funny to me how people would complain how tough or bad-ass a certain B-Ball is (i.e. Artest) but they can't hold a boxer's jock strap when it comes to those 2 things. Pacman at 150lbs and under 6' would be a 3-1 favorite in beating Artest's ass. So please stop complaining about Yao being "soft" and appreciate his skill. Bball was never intended to be a contact sport but based on skill instead.
Horrible analogy. Of course a boxer would whoop a basketball player, that is what they do for a living. Just like any NBA player would hoop up any Boxer. You can't really compare the two. One is full contact, the other is not. One is a team game, the other is one man. The thread fails like De La Hoya/Pacman II.
So "taking it like a man" in this case means T-Mac should have continued to play, even while he was physically incapable of being productive, and thereby was a liability to his team while on the floor, AND potentially put himself at risk of further injuring himself for a single regular season game? (Either by making the knee sore for a couple more days, or by overcompensating and injuring something else.)
You missed the point. I was alluding to the Yao-Haters that keep complaining that he's "soft" and not a bad-ass. It's not that type of sport. BBall was never meant to be like that. BBall players relatively speaking ARE ALL SOFT because that's the game they play. Now quitting for making $20m crosses is applicable to both boxing and bball.
Yeah, I know...he wasn't moving all game long, witness that steal where he was all alone out front and instead of attacking passed it back out and then took the pass for an 18 footer instead of just dribbling in for a wide open layup. DD
Not that good of a comparison, cus ODLH has had champions in 6 divisions, how many has McGrady have. I hope this year will be different.
Those belts came from cream-puffs. The mega-bouts that he lost to were to Trinidad, Mosley, Mayweather, Pacquio, etc. When it matters most, he wilted.
I think a healthy McGrady would have flushed it and the team would have won the game. But, I think a wounded McGrady who CARES...would have also gone in and attacked the basket. Something is not right in his head....he looks to be sulking....more than anything else. DD
I really don't think Mac would of came in even if it were the playoffs, he looked in worse condition I've ever seen him. He just couldn't go. 4 games in 5 nights won't happen in the playoffs so I am OK with it.
this is a horrible comparison....De la hoya is aged, his best days are gone and he's accomplished a lot in boxing. Sure maybe he didn't win the titles against the baddest fighters, but he won them. You gotta get what you can. The point is he went and did it. Tmac isn't aged, he's injured. He doesn't go and get it. He never really accomplished anything on the level De La Hoya did. I know that's because he never had the team, but my point is you can't compare tmac to Oscar because of that. The sports are also very different...
Horrible comparison obviously De La Hoya has proven to be a Champion...Tmac has never won any in his life.
