How the hell is Duncan ahead of Yao? They're stat lines are really similar, but the Spurs lost both road games, while the Rockets won six of seven..

That should be completely irrelevant when talking about this year's MVP award.

Duncan still deserves to be higher on the list at this point IMO because of how he helped keep the ship from sinking while Parker and Ginobili were out.

Because when parker and manu was out, he kept them afloat. don't worry keeny smithhad more votes than dream 1 yr. It has nothing to do with being a foreigner btw.

What kind of logic is that? Should Robert Horry be MVP if he still plays?

I'm not saying Duncan doesn't deserve the spot, but the logic in your reply is laughable.

That DPOY list they have just further illustrates that the defensive awards system is probably the biggest joke in the NBA, and has been for some time now.

They open up their case for Howard as #1 by touting his rebounding prowess. Someone remind me when exactly rebounding became indicative of defensive ability.

They make their case for Wade based on steals (another complete joke), and then of course the biggest laugher is Marcus Camby rounding out the list, but this is nothing new.

    It's fascinating, really.

I completely agree that the DPOY award is an annual display of stat-mongering which does nothing to address the other subtle and not-so-subtle characteristics necessary to be a truly sound defensive player. But one shouldn't totally disregard the utility of defensive rebounding (or to an admittedly lesser degree, steals and blocked shots). Too often we view rebounding, especially defensive rebounding, sans its impact on team defense. It's very important, after all, to secure the ball after a defensive stand for obvious reasons. It's hardly a trivial matter, nor is it a coincidence that Orlando is among the best defensive teams in the NBA per possession.

Whereas Dwight Howard has plenty of defensive weaknesses the media and fans commonly disregard or overlook, he's the most important factor of his team's defensive success. Does this merit a DPOY award? Not necessarily, if I had my way, but it's worth noting for fairness sake.

It's cause it's Lebron. I bet you they even have him on the list for 6th man too. It's ridiculous. Wade is having an incredible year defensively.

Pretty much, they are having a celebration on NBA TV because of his upcoming 25th birthday

    Just plain stupid.
