Senior administration officials "met several times in recent months" with coup plotters

You gotta love the irony of this quote, considering how Bush came to power:

Asked whether the administration now recognizes Mr. Chávez as Venezuela's legitimate president, one administration official replied, "He was democratically elected," then added, "Legitimacy is something that is conferred not just by a majority of the voters, however."

I didn't read the article but the military leaders that instigated the coup were trained by The School of The Americas....

    that's probably enough proof!?

    it's all about oil.

Nothing new. There is a reason why a large portion of Latin America does not like the US.

This is a great quote. A tyranny of the Majority is as bad as a tyranny of one. Whether or not this is the case in Venezuela or not I don't know. I've always felt that each individual has rights that can't be abridged by a majority vote, the Supreme Court, The President. This principle described in the Declaration of Independence is often lost today.

Are you even aware of Chavez's history?

He was democratically elected, but then recanted on all his professed 'beliefs'. He is a complete a**hole and megalomaniac whose removal from office is beneficial to everyone.

He has almost singlehandedly bankrupted Venezuela, alienated the oil company, which accounts for a majority of their GDP, as well as Colombia, the Church, and anyone else you could possibly think of. When the people tried to protest, he hired gangs to act violently to quell the opposition.

His OWN men tried to assassinate him from the roofs of nearby complexes during the uprising. 200,000 people rebelled.......nationwide.

You can not truly understand the Venezuelans level of hatred towards this man until you have been amongst them.
