Check the front page in sportsline and you'll see that Cato leads the league in Field Goal Percentage!

Hahahaha, 8 million dollars well spent...

Does this mean we should give Cato more shots? By the way, what most improved list, when is that award given out?

It's hard for an average player on a bad team to garner the votes/attention from voters.

    No...

His FG% is skewed because 90% of his "shots" are dunk attempts. If anything, his FG% should be HIGHER if he held onto the ball better.

I'm not b****ing about Cato, but this isn't a big accomplishment.

Why not give him more shots "dunks". If I am not correct, please correct me, but aren't dunks and lay-ups higher percentage shots? That is exactly what the Rockets need, and should be using it more often. But another thing I think most of ya'll are under-rating is Cato's 15 foot jumper. He can knock it down and I've seen most of the times he takes it, it looks good. He has a goof stroke but just never gets the rock to shoot it from outside of 2 feet. I don't understand why you can judge Cato's jumper when he hardly takes one, give him a chance! T-Mo has been given a chance and his jumpers are coming along, KT from his first season when he averaged 41% from the field??

I agree with Markell. Cato seems to hit that little jumper of his pretty well when he takes it. The problem is he only shoots it when he's forced to take it because of little time on the shot clock.

It would be great if Cato could consistently make that shot. We wouldn't be playing 4 on 5 on offense. Cato's man would actually have to guard him, helping open things up for everone else.

thanks gr8-1 i was just going to write the same thing. You can't tell me cato has that much easy shots because he is as strong as shaq or has got a good ball handeling skill. or is verry fast for his size, so there is something that make him get that much easy shots, i can think of one thing STEVE

Well, I like Cato, especially after this season, but here's one player who has a lower shooting percentage yet is better than him.

Shaq doesn't just dunk on you.
He pushes you aside and makes you want to look away as he scores.

For the record, Cato only makes $6m and won't top $8m until the final year of his contract. Perhaps you have him confused with Glen Rice? ;)

I am wondering how much that percentage will rise if we can talk/con/cajole/ridicule/entice/embarrass/coerce/trick Kelvin into attending the Pete Newell Big Man Camp?

    Yes it does...

However, Cato really is the only player we have who Francis makes better.

Great PGs are supposed to make 11 other players better. Francis is 10 short.

Or maybe Cato is the only player who actually goes to the basket or moves into space to give Francis a clear pass.

Yes his % (and his points per attempt which is 1.5+) is that high because they're dunks; and it's that high because of Francis. But, don't say that as if it were a bad thing. We're using Cato very efficiently on offense and Cato's buying into what his role is and won't shoot the shots the coaches don't trust him with. That's very good. He's become disciplined.

We may be able to increase his role a bit, but he can't be a major offensive player. He needs for Francis and Mobley to establish a slashing threat before he's open for his shots. He doesn't create them on his own, he just punishes centers for helping on the guards.

I think this would be a bigger accomplishment if he was actually creating his own shot more, rather than being setup by a teammate all the time.

If Cato went to the big man camp, then I think the next position we should be looking at is SF. If T-Mo shows significant improvement in 2 areas, defensive quickness and better % shots, then we only need to add a C next year to realistically try for 6th in the West. If we can limit Rice to 20 minutes, while getting good play from T-Mo, and limit Mo-T's minutes to 25 minutes (due to injury and time split between PF & C), then we'll be in very good shape assuming Griff also gets bigger and smarter (not a rookie).
