could the Rockets use a good Wang?

He comes free at the end of the season.

He is a 7'1" small forward that seems to be able to drop in the 3's with great consistency.
I know Nellie and Cuban like and want to keep him but with the Mavs salary cap situation they can easily be out bid. I believe the guy has as good an NBA shot as Dirk ( he just does not bring all of the other intangibles...yet).

In terms of what it would take to get him he might be the most easily to get and he might actually have more upside than the other prospects. I do think he has the best outside shot of the small forward possibilities. He could potentially cause some very serious match up problems for other teams if given the chance to grow as an NBA player.

    Any thoughts?

C'mon, Are you serious? You really believe he is a small forward? In anycase, Rashard Lewis is definitely a better shooter.

i think wang can easily play sf like dirk can

he's not so physical and moves awkwardly yet decently

in terms of price, at 7'0... he might be one of the best bargains and of course if we want ming... then the rocks should be looking at him

Maybe you should do a little research before you start spouting off hot sports oppinions.

    Rashard shoots F/G% .468 and 3pt % .389

    Wang shoots F/G % .459 and 3pt % .448

Almost exactly 50% of Wangs shots were from beyond the arc. Rashard shot about 1/3 of his shots from beyond the arc. I'll take Wangs shooting touch over Rashards.

Wang is mostly a spot up shooter that may be able to get a few boards and block some shots due to his size. In time with some real nba minutes he may even be able to do more.

I am not saying that Wang is going to be the next Dirk or KG but he may be the easiest to get by far and may be a lot better than you think.

And I do believe that Dallas has used Wang primarily as a 3 or a 4 kinda the same way that they use Dirk.

I'd liek to leave the backup C spot open to clear minutes for Griffin and Mo Taylor. We can keep Collier on the IL.

Right now, I think we should hope for Ming, Odom or nothing. Adding another mediocre player crowds our roster even more.

Wang has spent time at the SF position but that has more to do with Nellie's system than it has to do with Wang's ability. Wang is a natural 4/5. In the past 9 games Wang has been hitting 70% of his 3's and has shown some real flashes of a low post game. He's not going to be the type of low post player that just bowls guys over but he's developed a nice up & under move and is a better ball handler than most people think. He has yet to participate in a training camp and with some weight work and more coaching he could be the future starting center for the Mavs. That's right, the Mavs. There is no way in hell Nellie and Cuban are letting him get away. He is the perfect center for the Nellie's system, and since he's a restricted free agent the Mavs should be able to offer the 4.5 mil exception. i doubt any other team including the Mavs will offer more than that for his services since he hasn't played that much. Should be fun watching him in Dallas for a while though.

I know Nellie and Cuban like him and want to keep him but they are limited to what they can offer him, similar to our situation with Cat a couple of years ago.

The big question is would any team be willing to take the risk and would china even be willing to let him change teams? Little Whistle is the international guru among NBA people and Dallas is the perfect team with players from different cultures mainly because of Donnie.

I remember Nellie talking about Wang as having similar skills as Dirk when the drafted him and knowing that Dallas has used him primarily at the 3 this year he seems like he might be worth a shot if the price was right.

They have not been playing him at the 3! He's a center. The Mavs play as if all their players are small forwards because they can all shoot from downtown, but Wang has played center. Who would play center when Wang would play the 3? A Bradley/Wang 2-headed monster? or a Eschemyer/Wang tandem? The Mavs are in the business of winning games.

In any case, we have about no chance of getting Wang. We can offer him just as much as Dallas can: $4.5 million, the midlevel exception. And he's restricted. Maybe Chicago or some other team with cap room could steal him away, though I don't know if Wang would go elsewhere for more money anyway.

Actually your wrong. The Mavs have played Wang at the 3. I have been to several Mavs (my 10 year old sons favorite team) games this year and watched quite a few on TV when not watching the Rockets. Wang has most definitely been used at the three. The Mavs currently use LaFrentz as their starting 5 and Dirk as their starting 4 (although he has logged minuites as the 3 and 5 as well) Eschmeyer, Bradley and Howard (when he was still on the team even though he was normally a 4) were the primary 5's before.

Your last statement is most probably correct. China probably will not let Wang leave the Mavs.

Tonight in the second quarter of the Mavs came Wang comes into the game with Dirk (playing the 5) Najara (playing the 4).

The Mavs later subed Bradley for Dirk and the line up then included Bradley at the 5, Najara at the 4 and Wang at the 3.

Finley then came in for Wang at the end of the quarter at the 3.

Wang of course looked lost on D.

On offense he did what he always does...sets up behind the arc and sets pics and wait fot a pass for a 3pt shot.

So at least in the second quarter the two headed monster emerged.
