That's true. Detriot & Seattle went back to the old school logo's and jersey's, but it's updated and different. I wouldn't mind if we did that with our old logo and old uniforms. I agree with this too, yes I hated the old logo cause it made no sense and the best old uniform from the rockets was the home jersey's. Why can't we have jersey's like the one the raptors, lakers, and heat are using? They look nice.
hey!! i look quite sophisticated in a baseball cap, thank you!! you know what i mean, though...i don't mean the cap itself, I mean the design of the logo. If you can't look at the Lakers/Celtics/Bulls/Pistons logos and see that there is a certain elegant simplicity to them (like the Yankees logo as well in baseball...or the simple star of the Dallas Cowboys) and see how different they are from the current Rockets' logo, then I worry about your own sense of style!!! you should really have your wife pick out your clothes!! UTweeze -- yeah..I forgot about Seattle!! a classic update is a great way of saying it...what they should have done in 95/96 instead of completely throwing the baby out with the bathwater!
At the time I didn't really care for them. But being a Rocket fan for about 20 years, its the way I think of the Rockets. Its tradition, and we have a nice tradition as opposed to many other franchises like Cleveland,Denver.LAC,etc. For traditions sake, I would love to see those uniforms or at least a modified version back. Sometimes tradition is more important than going with whats trendy. I doubt celtic fans are crazy about their boring green and white fans. But thats how they and NBA fans identify w/them.
I loved the old unis, they were part of some tradition. They did look cheap, but I saw Akeem in them, Sampson, Drexler, and so many others, this is just legend! These players and the fans is what makes the Houston Rockets! The banners up there... the pictures of the finals and the championships... RED I hate the current unis: the logo is childish, the font is awfull and pinstripes are clownish... I'll never, ever, wear one of those and even less buy one. I'd love an updated version of the old unis... make it remember the good old days... the winning days and all our legends. RED should prevail. Gold should be there too. We could have a look at how Seattle and Chicago updated their unis. They really look cool and did not throw history away. New trendy cut, same old colors. Last, the current unis are bad omen, call it superstious or even stupid, but one thing is clear: AS soon as we had those unis we started to LOOSE!!! Try anything to win! bring some pride back and if it starts with unis, so be it!
I like the old uniforms but the new ones to me aren't bad at all. As soon as the new ones came out I bought a jersey with Olajuwon's name and number on it. If they change them again I hope they don't make them retro or anything like that.
I like the idea of a classic update incorporating pasox2's idea of silver as a complementary color. silver is a really nice color. I think it could mute the gold a little. plus, it's not a color that's overdone in basketball. classic update to represent for the old. silver to represent for the new.
You know your team is bad when fans complain about the uniforms. Lets see, Celtics, Yankees, Lakers, Red Sox...all have the kept the saame design since the beginning. Its called tradition. The Rockets ruined any chance they had at having tradition when they dumped those classic and awesome uniforms of yesteryear. Maybe its me, but when it comes to sports, Houston has no clue.
So right Bob Finn Abandon of the gold and red was really a shame. For me this was even worse than loosing a playoff series. You loose a playoff serie a year. you can win another one the next. A tradition takes ages to build and it is also in the looks. Like a watch a grand dad gives to his son, who gives it to his son and so on... Do you really think that some player on the rockets can say: Come on guys we have to be proud of the jerseys we are wearing!, we have to give 100 % because we are professionnals, yes, but more than that, there's a tradition we have to honor! I know other things can act as symbols, like the banners and so on, but the uni is really the most evident. I bet some players would look at it's shirt and think: Oh yeah, I remember! It was when the circus came to town!! Let me show the fan how I can dribble around my own players and dribble on my foot!

I'm surprised at how many of you didn't like the old uniforms. I agree with the calls to our classic, traditional look. The red and gold were OUR colors. The franchise had its best years in the red and gold, and that's how the fans and the league identified with us. I don't care for the Francis pic posted above....the red has too much pink and I still hate that lettering and logo. The red that appears on Francis' shoes in that pic is more how I like it. Trendy usually translates to butt-ass ugly, imo. I want a traditional look again in OUR colors.
The old colors were ok, but from the first day we changed I have been wanting to take the old logo and incorporate the new colors.that way old and new rocket merchandise can still be worn. I love the ideaa of new school/old school.with a new arena and new identgity, we could still pay tribute to glory days of the championships and to the new identity of the rockets. drop the rocket, keep the new colors and apply them to the old logo and everyone will be happy, and able to identify.
Did anyone see the 3 on 3 Hoop it Up at All-star Weekend? Mobely looked phat in the old uniform. That picture that SEVERE ROCKET put up is pretty good too. I would want the old ones back but I wouldn't mind the ones in the pic.
We also had the worst years of our franchise's existence in those old colors. And the rest of the fans don't care about the Rockets until we win a championship.... trust me. Whoever did the Mav's uni's and emblems needs to get with the Rockets' people and do lunch.
That just reinforces my point. We had the best and the worst years in that uniform from beginning to end. But in the end, those are the colors of the Houston Rockets, and we would do well, imo, to get back to them.
You could argue that the Astros are those freaking horrid orange and black things they had in the 70's and 80's too. The problem is that orange and red are really dated colors together AND no one wears gold/orange. It looks bad on everyone. The point of uniforms for teams are as much to market their sale to the general public as they are to cloathe the players. It's ok to have a sentimental attachment to them - they do represent some special times for Rockets fans. But, the majority of Rocket fans who will actually be buying and wearing the jerseys, caps and t-shirts aren't old enough to remember the red and gold. And, if you look around, nobody wears red and gold together on purpose. If the Rockets want fans to wear what they wear, they have to make it look good enough for people to want to do it. They won't bring back the short shorts for the same reason. That's just the reality. Personally, I like the fact that those uni's are retired. It was like a right of passage for me and makes me feel like I was part of an exclusive club. Plus, it makes the memorabilia worth more.
I made this Uni with a retro look but using the new colors. It's ok to me except it looks like a comets uniform...

What was the deal with having a mixture of capital and lowercase letters. That looked like somebody's six year old got ahold of the computer during the design process. HOUSton in bright red and cornea rending gold, great idea. The Jetson Pajamas aren't as hideous as those were.
Can you say Kansas City Chiefs? Been doin' it for about 30 years. It's a great color combo. Nevertheless, I can get into your notion of retiring that combo as testament to a great bygone era. Here is my two cents submitted to the Rocket brass: I like a classic look. No more cartoon characters. Good clean font. I do like the new V-neck jerseys, too. I've always wanted the Rockets to use a rocket-shape on the side panel of the tops and shorts-- complete with nose-cone at the armpits and flanges on the pant legs. It's a natural. HOME 1: White short and top with Red panels and Blue and Silver highlights all around (i.e. shading). No crummy graphics. Jerseys should say "HOUSTON." HOME 2: Get a slick-looking metallic silver top and bottom with the same touches as the uniform above. AWAY: Go back to the Red uniforms with a Silver rocket panel and Blue and White highlights. Jerseys will, of course, say ROCKETS.
How about a silver and red/blue jersey? Imagine the one Rocketeer made but with silver at center and red/blue on the side... Just a thought... ALA
