I use to play alot of pickup games in college at our rec center, but I've been out of school now for a couple years and want to start playing again. Where do people play? Anyone recommend a gym or courts around town that have decent pick up games? Anyone ever use sportsmonkey.com?

Some of us Clutchfans get together on the weekends (weather permitting) and play some pickup games. As for leagues, most YMCA's have them.

people play at Spotts Park all the time. just be aware that it is a pretty bad court to play on....slippery concrete, hard rims, and a hill to walk back up when you're done.

but consistent action there usually during weeknights.

right? when i moved to austin back in 91, i just went to the closest court. it was at a jr. high, i think.

great games with guys anywhere from 14 to 50+ years old and every color of the rainbow.

of course, that was about 30 lbs ago.... :(

that's actually where i got the name for my oldest son. use to play against this guy named devon. two year later, we had our first kid and i remembered that name.

Yep, I used to play there all the time. There was also that covered court on San Felipe.

Whatever you do, don't play at that church on Bering St. There's a group of Iraqis that ball over there - and they play really dirty. I remember one time, it was game point, and my friend was going up for the winning layup. One of the dudes grabbed his nuts HARD. He screamed, and the Iraqi stripped the ball from him. At that point, our team was demoralized and they went on to score on their next two posessions.

Just about any YMCA will have a league(Downtown is always pretty good) The one I enjoyed the most was First baptist on I-10 and Silver. Adress is 7401 Katy Freeway Houston, Texas 77024. They have an open gym on Thursdays for pick up games. Or you could go for the CLC competitive or intramural league, two refs and reasonably priced. The three years I played there we had some D1,D2 and Juco talent along with a few And1 participants(Don't know how true this was) The leagues run year around, ask for Ray if you call. Here's their # to the gym 713-957-6710. If you do play there(Competitive) and get a team together just one word of advice, get some height on your squad! Good luck!
