Just a lighthearted thread. Will CP3 get a steal tonight and break the record? I say no. The streak ends at 105. When will Calderon miss a FT? Dude is 59-59 on the season.
I wouldn't compare the two but I'd be glad to have either one as a Rocket. Calderon is a very true PG and a great shooter. Just an extremely steady and efficient offensive player, almost like a suped up Steve Blake. Calderon as a starter with Brooks backing him up would be very nice. /dream
Maybe he'll end up in a photo somehow insulting Canadians and they'll be forced to trade him. Better yet, he should make a YouTube video where he talks about hockey being a lame sport. He'll get booed out of the country.
Am I the only one that thinks Chris Paul's streak is no big deal? If you're a guard with quick hands and you play 40 minutes a night it's pretty hard not to record a steal at some point. Sure, it's impressive and CP3 is filthy good. I'm just not enamored with an inflated stat like this.
If we didn't even know this record existed, it's probably not so big a deal. Then again when was the last time we had a good pg we could look at and say "I'll bet he gets a steal in the next 105 games?" Paul is quite the player though. Wish we had him for our very own.
Considering in history it is Paul - 106 2nd - 105 3rd - 77.... And CURRENT players with a streak... Paul Rondo - 22 Delonte West & Jeff Foster - 9 Preeeeeettyyyyyy ridiculous
Calderon would look good on the Rockets, where his piss-poor defense could be masked by interior toughness that Toronto lacks.
I disagree. Defensive specialists who are also true point guards are rare commodities. Even Deron Williams' defense isn't great, and I definitely don't think you could count him out for instance.
I'm not talking about being a specialist. Just make the opposing PG look like he's working for his points. Calderon would not see significant PT on any of the NBA's top teams. Same goes for Nash. D'Antoni's system gave him a reputation that has kept him from being exposed, for now. Its no accident Dallas became a defensive juggernaut after he left. My point is score all you want. Make all the fancy passes you want. Playoff matchups will ensure you get burned, every time
Can see where you're coming from. I'll have to back what foodworld said though. Just seems for some reason good defense and good point guards arent too mutual. Point guards with defense as their strenght are much more scarce in the league than offense facilitating point guards.
97. Calvin Murphy used to hold the record at 73, I think. I still remember I watched him missed that free throw that ended the streak.
