What I think is hilarious about most criminals is that they commit their crimes in the city where they live in and stick around.

If you just commit your crime in another state and split immediately it seems like your chances of getting away with it would go up significantly.

    • Go around town with a shotgun and blow away the red light cameras.

    • Plant bombs in all the freeway toll stations, call in a bomb threat to get all the people evacuated, then blow up all the toll booths.

    • cut the heads off parking meters all over downtown.

America is long overdue for another Boston Tea Party

Two problems with doing it out of your comfort range:
-Tracking your location. You would have to pay for everything cash so you wouldn't leave a money trail. You would have to get your cash long before you left, so there wouldn't be a big withdrawl from your bank account, which would look fishy. No devices with GPS like your cell phone or fancy car navigating system. Who knows what they keep records of these days.
-The getaway. If something goes wrong, you want to know your turf, not get stuck in a back alley. Chances of getting lost/caught have to be higher in an area you don't know.

And you know, they always make it so easy to track them down.

If I robbed a bank downtown, I would drive west on I-10, stop at a gas station at...oh, say Hwy 6 and I-10, use my credit card, then get back on I-10 heading EAST and calmly drive the speed limit all the way to New Orleans. All the detectives would assume I'm heading west.

Seemingly anonymous murder would be easy. Lets say, if I did it, I might have rented a panel van in Texas, altered the license plate, parked outside of OJ's house, picked him off when he was headed out to play golf with a deer rifle and beat it back to Texas.

A lot of criminals are dumb. That's why they get away with it. However, some thefts are incredibly successful. A couple of thieves stole the freaking Mona lisa once, and never got caught until they put it up for sale.

Some thieves stole hundreds of millions of dollars worth of jewelry at a high end store. I think it's been 15 years and they haven't been caught. It was later found out that the thieves used fake assault rifles.

Stupidity, greed and poor planning are the easiest ways to prevent from being caught. The less human interaction you have the better your chances of having an unforeseen issue come up.

Beat up random street dealers and take their money.

A while back there was the "polo bandit" in Houston. He would come into a bank in a white polo and slacks and single handily take it for thousands. He did this 20-30 times. Eventually he was caught because he was pulling on to 1960 after a robbery and a little old lady ran a red light; he realized he was doomed and on the spot he shot himself. Turns out he was from Waco, was a respected car dealer(not a dealership), and a family man (4 kids). He would come down to Houston once or twice a month to make a deal on some cars and before he came back he would rob a bank, then head home.

All the big ideas are white collar. Come up with a scheme that promises investors a decent double digit return but sounds believable. Make it professional with legal documents, employees, and a nice office (you can manage the startup expenses on credit cards). Use the money you raise to gamble, either literally or on wild investments, all while living the opulent lifestyle. If your bets win then you make out unscathed, if they don't, you go to jail for 5 years.

A good example was a friend of a friend of mine that worked in real estate in Vegas. He would find a house that cost $400k, get it appraised for $500k(illegally), get an investor to sign a note guaranteeing that the note would be paid for at least two years with the promise of gains on the long term appreciation. He would get a renter to pay $2000/month then take 50k of the 100k and set it aside to pay the remaining portion of the note. He would then go find other investments to place the other 50k in hoping to turn such great profits that he made out in the end after all the houses were sold. Turns out he didn't set aside the 50k because his investments otgrew wat he could produce so at his peak he had 250 homes and negative cash flow of 250k a month. He made some decent investments like this,

, which supposedly makes him $1,000,000/year. All that being said I haven't heard where everything stands after the bust of the last year and a half. I hope he is in jail.

i've done it with implied oral consent.

i've never understood the sticking around after robbing someone. if i could pull off a robbery where i could get a boatload of cash, i'd be in mexico or costa rica about 3 hours after it happened.

ive been asked this question before, and here's the plan:

house robbery -- 3 man job.

    1) pose as gardeners and steak out the neighborhood in order to best choose your target house.

    2) during the day, arrive at target house when home owners, neighbors should be at work. again, posing as gardeners.

    3) two guys play look out while blasting lawn mower and weed whackers to drown out any glass breaking or furniture moving. 3rd guy enters through back door, raids the house, packs what he can into boxes and throws grass/leaves on top to look like trimmings.

3 "gardeners" carry boxes of "trimmings" to the truck and leave.

    issues:

what if no one on the street had gardeners? you would stick out odd, you could possibly pose as new gardeners for a house on the street but if the owner is around then you are hosed. also then you cant really just stand around casing the houses around the area. you would have to actually do work to keep up with your disguise. then if the owner isnt home when he/she does come home and see their house has been taken care of suspicions will arise

Thread over. We have a winner. Paulson needs to get the Mussolini treatment when all of this is said and done.
