With the increased playing time in the last 10 games, the hustle, rebounding, & improved shooting touch (albeit, inconsistent), has he earned another look next year? With the flashes he's shown in those 10 games & the fact that he's a 6'11" SF with great leaping ability, would you resign him? I would. He's not likely to get many offers, so, we should be able to resign him fairly cheap.
i think langhi would thrive on another team just like damon jones somehow these types of guys just die in in the rockets lineup ... with low bball iq teammates, slow paced offense/transition and bad play calling/executing, and a 40 yr old guy with dead legs playing over you named after a staple crop would brent barry die here in houston? i think he would damon, langhi, and griffin would be impressive and making a much larger impact sooner somewhere else in a team like cleveland, detroit, charlotte etc... i'd rather sign zhizhi and have him work with ming (which none of the above answered anything u were talking about really)
I think Langhi would be smart to leave. He has teamates that do not pass, and are as selfish as a 2 year old with a baby sister. DaDakota
I think Langhi has shown he can be a contributor off the bench. We should bring him back if possible and see if he can be more. Bill and Calvin always talk about the third year being when a guy will really step up, if he's going to. Look at Kenny this year. I know he's got more minutes, but he is also giving more per minute. Whether he comes back also depends on what we do in the offseason. Walt and Kevin may be gone, but we probably have two top 15 picks. Will Dan want to come back and sit on the injured list, if it plays out that way? I doubt it.
I guess he should take a hard look at his decision. First he is not currently a starting SF in this league. So the question is should he go to be a backup somewhere or stay at the Rockets with playing time very tight. He has to determine whether the team in going to run more and lengthen it rotation so that he can play some. He is young and as long as he get a fair chance to play say 8 min/game, next year and pay some more dues, then it may be the place to be. He also knows that he can play the position in the Rudy system. Also, he has the right attitude for this team. From the team perspective, I think he has shown major progress and comfort with the team and system, which only came, not surprisingly, from increased playing time. Athough the team is full at SF, the article in the Chronicle today suggests they would go after a SF in the draft. I hope that is pure speculation as it is clear to me our problem is a the 5 spot, irrespective of the improvements made by EG during the off season. It is because of the gains made by the backup players this year including DL, that I am suggesting that Rice who appears to be coming back strong be moved to the back court behind Mobley. Thats not to say he would not get to play SF, but the move will ease up the logjam at SF, not to mention the give Mobley some valuable rest time. Barring no trades, I would think KT would start at SF and I would bring in DL to back him up. Morris would come in for Taylor and EG for Cato. Now you know with Rudy, who enjoys mixing and matching, there are various other short term things that can be done, but that would be the basic rotation plan. DL can score. Simple. You can run plays for him and he can score off attention payed to other big guns on the team. I have seen him put the ball on the floor going both directions, up fake for more space and drain the jumper. He is 6-11. In the scenario I suggested he would be playing with EG, Moochie, Rice and Morris. Assuming EG and Rice would be the attention getters, DL should be able to handle opportunities that come his way from that, timely cuts and the penetration of Moochie. Lately he has shown good rebounding instincts and presence as well. Bottomline: DL has the skills to meet the requirements of a backup role on the team at SF.
Great assessment, DearRock. I too vote thumbs up for keeping Langhi. We have plenty of SFs, IMO I also believe we should concentrate on upgrading the center position with either Ming or Marcus. In addition, I hope we can acquire Stoudemire with Toronto's pick.
a 6-11 SF for a team that's going to be starting Glen Rice should have definately gotten a better shot this year. I dunno if he wants to come back but I would rather Langhi then Torres. Langhi showed he has game in preseason, and you just can't teach 6'11. Maybe Langhi's got some KVH in him. Houston could go big lineup of Steve, Langhi, KT, EG, and Kato odd but how would other teams matchup? I could see him matched up with Allan Houston. If the Rockets have the 5th pick, and is set on taking a SF, we should trade down for Butler. If Woods is still available at 5, would you take him? I know less about this kid than I do Ming. If anyone slips in the draft, I bet it's him.
Yes keep him---he's got a great release and he's still young. Being on the bench lets him mature. One more year and then evaluate his talent.
Since I respect your seniority and thoughts in other posts, I will tone down my trademark -- unless it involves racism and then I will take a more hands on approach. How do other senior members (1,000 posts or more) feel about this and for keeping Langhi?
Thumbs: I have to say that I am impressed. I'm glad to see that this gimmick of always having to say "thumbs" in every one of your posts is going to (hopefully) cease. I never thought that I would see you acquiese to BGM that quickly, though & that is what impresses me. You can be a solid poster (something I learned the hard way) without resorting and having to rely on gimmicks. I may get shot for suggesting this, but a great way to improve your "posting style", IMO, is to go to the Hangout and read some of the threads there and get familiar with some of the heavyweights over there like Jeff, RM95, rimbaud, and haven just to name a few. Most posters who first start here always post in the Rockets forum not even realizing about the Hangout. It is a great "training ground", IMO, plus you always learn good news. As for your question: I think that the Rockets and Langhi would both be wise to go their separate ways. I think "Boney" sealed his fate with Rudy when he complained earlier in the season about his lack of playing time to the media. Also, like others have said, the Rockets system is one that Langhi has seemed to be unable to grasp.
Doubt it. Best case for him on this team would be IR, which he wouldn't be happy with. Time to part ways. Based on our current roster, we have these players under contract ranked clearly ahead of him: Francis Norris Mobley Rice Morris Taylor Griffin KT Cato Collier (Our lotto pick) (Toronto pick) that's 12 players assuming we pick up no free agents, don't resign anyone (Walt, OT, and/or Willis?) and that he'd be better than our 2nd round pick from Detroit via Toronto.
I don't see how Morris gets more minutes than him. I'd like to see how he plays with consistent minutes. Hopefully next year he can get time witha healthy squad.
Keep him...lose him....it really doesn't matter because all we will get for him is another Langhi type player...its not like if we give the guy the boot we will be making room for some great player...the nba is filled with players like langhi, and all you get for one is another one........
We judge Langhi by what we see in the games. Rudy however has seen him on a basically daily basis for the last two years. During all of that, Langhi did not impress Rudy enough to earn playing time. He was finally let in after a rash of injuries and the season was already over. And during that showcase time he has been, at best, inconsistant. I don't see what he has done to get another chance.
Thumbs, Don't be intimidated by a few whiny guys here on the BBS. Thumbs down to trying to regulate posts. I find his approach refreshing. DaDakota
