http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_y...?slug=ys-theusfired121608&prov=yhoo&type=lgns Shame if you ask me... he has no talent to win with and they overachieved by beating the lakers. There's no reason to fire him now... They suck and they will continue to suck.
I love Theus. No reason to blame him. Put any other coach on this team and he won't reach the playoffs either. As Barkley said. Coaches get fired for GM's mistakes.
What he did last year was amazing. Horrible fire. Maloofs went from good owners to bad owners in a 5yr span. Martin hasn't even been healthy this year and they started without Miller.
The more coaches get fired, the more likely JVG would get hired from some team... But Elston Turner at the end of the season is most likely to take the Kings job,imo...
Their best player has been injured all year and you expect him to win games with a starting lineup that features 1 black player?
and the carousel continues. there used to be a time when I knew all NBA teams head coaches, but with the Flips and the Carlisle's and the Larry Browns switching teams every year, and then these interim coaches getting their chance only to have it yanked away from them, I don't know who's coaching where or who half of these young guys are.
i think thats the 6th coach, it was pj, eddie jordan, sam mitchell, maurice cheeks, randy wittman, and now reggie. Shame, I don't think all these coaches deserved it, but i think there is a snowball effect, all these fans and owners are seeing coaches getting fired, and if the team is under performing, it seems like getting a new coach is the way to go...
I think Theus was fired because most of the players had turned on him. It wasn't just because of the record. The Kings probably realized they couldn't finish the season with him and saw no reason to delay the inevitable. I saw a few of their games and it appeared he had little connection with the players. I'm not sure if there is a place in the NBA for a coach who imposes a midnight curfew on road games and bans cell phone use on team buses.
He did so well last year though, and that attitude is refreshing. But I agree. Hopefully he finds his way back to the college game ASAP where he can really make an immediate impact as he has demonstrated in the past.
A lot of Kings fans, myself included, just wanted Theus to play the youngsters more, developing them. That's a part of freaking rebuilding. We could care less about winning games. Nobody expects us to make the playoffs anytime soon. Also brings us closer to the #1 pick next season.
Sacramento Suuuccckkksssss...... They were a fair team in one of the toughest conferences in history last year. Then in the offseason they trade there best player RON RON to us. They have no all-star players. Kevin Martin is hurt. If they want to "develop there young players" (a.k.a tank like a mofo and get a good draft picks and not spend money because there waiting for 2010 like all bad teams right now.) Then dont even hire a coach and save yourself some money.
Wow, shocking!!! It's only december and NBA teams have already fired 7 coaches. The worsend economy really turns the owner into foul mood. 3 more to go to make it double digits.
Did the owners or GM actually think they'd have a winning team this year? Seriously...no chance of them making the playoffs, they're in a building mode with some quality young players, why not build a system for success ala Nate and the Blazers?
