Good stuff, Troy. I think one thing that will really add to the "Rocket game experience" will be the new arena and specifically the new vido scoreboard in the MIDDLE of the arena and not way in the upper deck end zones. Those of us who have been to a good arena with a good video scoreboard know the difference. The Compaq Center is a joke. Here is a marketing idea I've had for awhile knowing it would never fly because Les is a tightwad (just ask some of his employees). How about this: TURN BACK THE CLOCK SEASON The Rockets pay homage to our championship years in the old Summit in there last year playing there. Not just a night, but an entire season. Go back to the championship uniforms for one year. This accomplishes 2 things...fans, not all but some, will want to buy the new/old jerseys again. That is good for Les. Then when we move into the new arena and the new uniforms are unveiled he gets to sell even MORE jerseys. Love them or hate them, I think going back to the old jerseys for just one year would be cool. Here is the part I don't think Les would like: In conjunction to turning back the clock season they should turn back the clock to ticket prices for one entire season. Lower the prices and fill up the SUMMIT for one last season. He can't get people to fill the seats now. How many teams actually DROP ticket prices in the off season???? The pr for this would be good. The only problem would be the new ticket prices in the new arena would look like a drastic jump compared to the Turn Back the Clock prices I'm talking about. Having said that I know none of this will ever happen. I still think the Rockets management doesn't have a clue about many things and is out of touch. I've mentioned many times before about how Les has rarely showed up to game this season...or at least many of the games I've been to. Maybe if he had to sit through 41 games looking at the empty seats he would change his view, but I doubt it. os
RED AND GOLD!!! Make it classic and remember the good old days, but take away the 'cheap' look of the early 90ies uni... Thank God they are changing the gear, that's the only good news of the season! I've always been quite jealous at how the celtics kept their unis through the ages, it makes them special...
Who can't get fired up for t-shirt night?? If they really wanted to show their appreciation they would give a t-shirt to EVERYONE who attends the last game of the home season tonight.
congrats guys. i remember the really really ugly old denver unis and how much better it feels to get them changed. its like a new start in a ways.
Goto http://www.dreamweaver.net/strangeray02 and when it loads add the extension "/jersey.gif" to the address bar and you can view it. That jersey would be pimpin'
Hey Old School I like your idea about changing back to the old unis for the last year in the summit, but the NBA for some reason has a two-year application/notification process in which they have to let the NBA know they are changing unis/logo well in advance of doing so. Even if the Rockets wanted to do this, the NBA wouldn't let them. I think it's a shame because that would be a great idea for one season.
Actually ZRB, the uniform that Steve is wearing in that picture is better than the uniforms that we have right now.
I agree with most of what you guys are saying (except those of you that like anything about the current jerseys). Just my $0.02 but I always thought the strip up the side of the jersey was a perfect opportunity for an apollo rocket, old school NASA style. I would go for more red than blue but I like the current colors. Don't make it cheap looking which means the current lettering is out. No cartoons please.
Troy: Your ideas are good; your punctuation sucks. I think I almost gave my self an anyurism reading that. Your quality ideas would benefit from some commas, periods, colons, semicolons, and the like.
I watched interviews with Cuttino and Willis tonight on Sports Sunday. Willis had a part in designing the new uniforms in Toronto when he was a Raptor. He wants to have a part in designing the new Rockets uni's as well. Speaking of uniforms: Turbo is in bad need of a something. He may be the best dunker in the league but his outfit is by far the worst of the dunking mascots. Spandex, sunglasses and shorts?? os
