It's pretty cool to interact with complete strangers on the Internet, I must admit. If you're a girl on there though the guys outnumber you like 30 to 1, and all the guys try to hit on you. There are usually about 6 or 7 guys around the chick everywhere she goes.
Can't wait to be done with my Finals, get back home and boot up the PS3. Haven't even touched it for a month. Been waiting on Home for a long time too. The criticism that it's been getting is ridiculous to me. It's FREE. If people don't like it, don't use it.
There is no update. It will just appear under the PS Store icon. I tried it. Don't think I'll really ever use it. There were a lot of people in though so I guess it has some appeal. You can choose to be a girl or a guy so I would not follow around any "women" that you see.
I think they originally had it as one big download, but they decided to break up the zones. Each has their disadvantages...although I think I'd probably prefer the current setup. I haven't really spent much time in Home since I got a beta invite a couple of weeks ago. I played around with it a little bit and then bought some of the free stuff they were giving away that one day, but I've been a little too busy to check it out too much. Although to be honest, didn't seem to have that much appeal to me at the time, but then again, I think that was partly because I didn't really know many people that were in Home. I mentioned it to a couple of friends the other day, and I might check it out a little more if they use it too. Will likely spend most of my Christmas break w/o broadband, so probably won't spend much time with it anytime soon. Oh well, more time for Persona 4...
(One of) your favorite boards is ripping this to shreds, I noticed. I thought in theory it sounded a little cool, but reading about it it seems like a lot of weird design decisions. And kind of pointless.
I got into the early beta. Spent less than 12 minutes in it. Just not interesting. I don't see it doing well in America.
Not as pointless as avatars on the 360. I spent five minutes creating a avatar and have no clue what I can do with him. The majority of you guys are missing the point of Home. It's not a game. It's a social hub for you to meet up with your friends online and chill, go bowling, play pool, or play the mini arcades etc. I had a negative impression prior to testing (neogaf ftl), but after experiencing it, it's pretty cool for a free service. The service is a little bare at the moment, but after reading what they have planned, I have no doubt Home is going to be great. Uncharted Bar, Namco Museum, etc. For what it is, I'm having a good time going to the European/Japanese servers and chatting with new people. The only way I see Home becoming a flop is if 2nd/3rd party developers don't take advantage of the virtual space (creating their own rooms). A interesting idea I've read is that they might convert trophies into Home currency. If this is true and is released soon, I think this will boost game rentals/sales slightly. This will give people a real incentive to unlock all the trophies in a game vs just bragging rights. I wouldn't spend any real money to purchase items in Home, but with currency from Trophies, I'd definitely do it.
Not that much to do once you're there... I went on the Japanese one and the central plaza is much better IMO. If you have a Japanese ID, get the Namco Beta from the JP PSN store and install it - then flip back to your regular ID and play though the Pac Man, Galaga, and Dig Dug demos and you can unlock several items for home. I got a nifty Pac Man shirt. Where do you get the door codes for the Uncharted room?
I'll try out my japanese account for Home, thanks! For the Uncharted room, just stand up next to the door and ask around, I got my code that way but I don't remember now. You don't even have to ask usually there are 10 people standing there and at least one of them writes the code.
Oh chow. What does the 360 have to do with anything? All avatars are pointless, you should understand that by now. That includes the Abercrombie Zombies that Home apparently features. Don't tell me, tell your fellow PS3 owners. They seem unimpressed. Though, if some of the things people are criticizing are true - making people wait in lines while in the game world seems like a bad idea - it's not hard to see why. Still, the 'virtual world' has potential. Whether or not it's realized is a different story.
I made a thread about this when it opened to the public and got two responses. I hate you guys. No, but I got on there and its ok. The concept is cool. I agree though that its success is going to depend on third party developer's interaction. The dancing is kind of funny. I went on the other night and was serving suckas!
I haven't really kept up with what people have been saying is wrong with Home (busy with finals and P4...I know, I'm a broken record). Other than being a bit bare bones (or whatever), what is wrong with it? I somewhat agree with what chow_yun_fat was saying in regards to a possible misunderstanding of what Home is (at least in its current state). Right now, I think it probably relies heavily on how social you are, and how many friends you have within Home. If you're like me in that you don't really know anyone else in Home (except now a few ClutchFans members), and you're not really the type to strike up conversation with random people from around the world...then yeah, Home probably isn't all that interesting, especially in its current state. As chow_yun_fat mentioned, it is social hub, not a game. Of course, this isn't necessarily their fault. Sony has done a terrible job of rolling out Home IMO, and it isn't surprising that people don't really know what to expect. Eventually, it might prove to be more interesting to those wanting something that complements the gaming-side a bit more. Definitely looking forward to seeing some more developer spaces, and I would like to check out Home during some live event like E3 or something. But those are still pretty much just cool ideas...and nothing more.
I'm have to update my software to be able to view...I haven't been on my PS3 in months...I like the concept, but if you're not up for being online all the time on your PS3, then it's probably not for you...
