I'm a big fan of the Rockets' championship teams, not only because they won, but they were good Houstonians (excluding V. Max), they were better symbols and representatives of the city of Houston (something today's team lacks), and they were fiery competitors with the fire and desire to win. One great thing about our team then, was that someone was always wanting to beat us, or we really wanted to destroy them badly....alos called rivalries. I remember having fiersome rivalries with the Jazz, Sonics, Spurs, and Suns. Come playoff time, we would always play one of these teams and the games were so intense because of the heated rivalries the teams would display. What ever happened to that competitiveness? Was it because the NBA wasn't so talent lop-sided as it is now, and that there were so many rivalries because every team could compete with each other? It doesn't seem like the '02 Rockets get fired up to play anyone these days. Maybe because our guys are still so young and haven't been around in the league long enough to develop a hatred or a dislike, or intensity to go after other competitive teams. Or maybe it's because our Rockets don't believe in themselves to win, hence there's little room for fierce competition and rivalry. What do you think?
Who are the Rockets Rivals? Well currently they are: Bulls Grizzlies Cavs Nuggets Warriors I dont know where you've been, but these last few weeks and the remainder of this season have been very interesing for me. We are in serious competition with these teams (and some others) for more lotto ballz!
dude, you're way off. I know all about the lottery and if you think that a rivalry involves teams trying to tank against each other for rights to more little balls, then you've got some issues. If you followed 90's Rockets basketball, you should have an idea of what I'm talking about.
That was pretty funny...u guyz posted the same exact teams just in differen order. Hehe. But our rivals are: Jazz - still can match up decent Sonics - occasionally put up a fight And that's about it. No the Spurs and Lakers are not rivals. They mop the floor with us.
Just because some of these guys are beating our injured and mentally depleted squad right now has no bearing on whether they are rivals. Rocket fans must always hate the Jazz. They must always hate the Sonics. It is written. Same with the Lakers and those other Texas teams. (Who are they?)
I think Suns and Rockets will be a good matchup in the future Steve and Stephon seem to always get into shootouts when they play
There are though ,the traditional rival/hate for The Jazzercisers & the Pip,.......... these things we hold to be self-evident.
Steve and Cuttino seem to get really fired up when playing the Blazers... I remember seeing how disappointed they were after giving their all in an overtime game against them one night and coming up short.
The biggest Rivals for the Rockets themselves has got to be the Mavs, hands down. They love playing these guys, and always express how much they look forward to playing each other. Always a good game. For fans however, the Jazz will always be the most hated. Although I'm not sure if Jazz games have the same atmosphere as a Rockets/Mavs game.
i think our current rival is the loss column. No matter how hard we try, the loss column seems to always get over on us...
The guys, especially, Steve seem to really like beating the jazz. You always get interesting quotes from Steve and a good game against those pricks.
