yeah, why would a guy want to be head coach in the SEC at a big school, I mean, its stupid to think someone would want that job over being a coordinator

Muschamp has it pretty good at Texas right now. He gets a small school head coach salary at near a million, has access to the best recruits, learns how to recruit and run a big time program from one of the top 5 head coaches, and is next in line to coach one of the top programs in nation.

Unless he gets an incredible deal, I don't see how he would leave unless all he cares about is being a head coach.

He would be inheriting a mess with lots of pressure. It's not like they treated his former boss, who took them to an undefeated season not too long ago, well.

I understand this report probably isn't true, but to think a guy would want to stay a co ordinator over taking a job like auburn's is drinking the ut kool aid. austin's a great town but this is a guy's a career. you guys need to step back, auburn could have been in a national title game four years ago.

He'd also be more than doubling his salary today instead of waiting 5 or 10 or more years - and that's assuming nothing were to go sour with the defense over that time frame at Texas (remember how much people loved Greg Robinson and Gene Chizik their first year at Texas and didn't miss them at all when they left).

I have a feeling it will be a bit less than 5 and certainly less than 10 more years.

But unlike being a head coach, if things get bad at Texas, he gets ground cover from one of the best. Texas also has a rep for being very loyal to their coaches. Think Greg Davis.

Is it really out of the realm of possibility that Muschamp found where he and his family want to be long term and that he'd pass up other head coaching jobs to do it? $900,000 is a decent living...especially in Texas. I'm not sure what the cost of living in Alabama is or what their state income tax structure is, but it's not like he's barely surviving here. He's getting paid a ton of money to learn from one of the best at one of the historically great schools in a fantastic city.

If he gets a decent HCing offer for a lot of money, he will take it, he can always come back to UT when Mack leaves.

UT giving him 900k is not going to stop him from taking 3 million elsewhere.

Good thing Auburn didnt hire him..

Muchamp pretty much made it known he wants the UT job, and UT has made it known they want him...

I think Muchamp would have a hard time landing a big time gig just because there would be constant speculation that he's leaving for UT...

Maybe he doesn't feel like he's ready, yet. Maybe he and his family like Austin and/or UT that much.

Nobody is giving Muschamps 3 million to start. Mack doesn't even quite make 3 million. Tuberville was making close to 3 million but that was after the raise he got for going undefeated. 3 million is what coaches make after they have proven that they are winners at the head coaching level.

I don't think Muschamp would have a hard time land a big job at all, schools like Clemson, Tennessee, and Auburn were supposedly very interested in Muschamp and if it weren't for the HC-in-waiting, I think he would have landed one of those jobs.

Also, you can be sure that if Muschamp did take another job (after being promised to be next HC at UT), he would probably have zero chance of being re-hired.
