theres no way in hell we beat the lakers with Bynum, Gasol, Ariza, Odom, with our current roster, we just have ZERO size. An undersized hayes and landry can only get you so far.
I know. We just need a 7 footer. I think we should try to trade Head and possibly a second round pick for Johan Petro. We just need someone. We also need to develop someone to be Yao's backup NEXT season so best to start now and that person could be worth 10 minutes of rest for Yao soon. Someone who can do just ONE thing really well would suffice. ANYTHING.
Relax. It's only a matter of time before we deal Head and/or Francis. My guess is something along the lines of the suggested Head-for-Sean Williams swap or some form of 2-for-1 so we can free up a roster spot for Deke.
I saw Bynum play the other night, whoa, he is a pogo stick around the basket. He has serious hops and quickness. He will be dancing around Yao like he was a campfire.
Rockets have the roster space. It's getting under LT. Expiring contract, one year rental deals: Head to Oklahoma for TE. (Thunder hold $3.226M TE) or Head to Memphis one-way trade (Grizzlies under salary cap by $6.316M) Above deals for Head will only make room for Deke to return for the playoffs. Francis to Oklahoma for TE. or Francis to Memphis one-way trade. If Francis can displace Alston: Alston to Memphis for Lowry (Grizzlies under salary cap) Otherwise the Rockets need to make a deal/s moving over $9M of salary...
Whe are the Rockets planning on: - playing some defense - getting Yao the ball consistently? - not getting owned on the boards - making a few 3 point shots - all being healthy at the same time? - playing some good motion offense? Some questions my friend, may never have an answer.
Yeah, we are too tiny, except Yao. But im happy our tiny guys playing very good when they are on the floor.
Nice research and I agree that the "get under the LT if you can" element exists. I just don't think we're in a position to be slashing roster spots given our unending injury problems. I'd imagine right now we're trying to swap Head for a future 1st-rounder and like you're suggesting a TE. If/when that fails what happens next? A 1-for-1 seems logical as long as the deal we're taking back isn't too lengthy or pricey.
Getting a decent big back will probably take Head plus either Hayes or Dorsey. I don't think teams would be interested in Francis, since he hasn't shown he could play, but who knows. If Wafer keeps getting minutes, Head may roll out of here by the All-Star Break. Naturally, I'd prefer keeping Hayes, but we may have to give something to get something back.
I'd put Oklahoma's TE in the too hard basket. A trade involving either Head or Francis or Alston to Memphis is looking like the Rocket's most obvious ticket out of LT. Since the Grizzlies are under the salary cap by c.$6M there are multiple trade scenarios involving them (both on their own or 3 team scenarios). Otherwise Kirk Hinrich at the trade deadline is the only other salary dumping deal that sticks out. I don't think Head can snare a future 1st-round pick. Looking at some past trades JR Smith and Kirk Snyder only got back 2nd round picks. While the 76ers included a 1st round pick when they dumped Rodney Carney. All those players were drafted higher than Head. If the Rockets manage to get under LT while still having Head on the roster. They might be able to package him with Memphis's 2009 second round pick or on his own for a future big man prospect that are either damaged goods or hold some kind of uncertainty. Some examples I can think of are Jason Smith, Sean Williams, Joel Freeland (draft rights), and Nathan Jawai.
Dec.15 is the day free agents that were signed (Dorsey and Barry) can be traded. So maybe Morey is just waiting until then to pull the trigger. Its just a thought.
