The bigger problem I saw with the second unit last night was on the defensive side. I believe Brooks, Battier, Landry and Scola were out there with Wafer early in the fourth. The Hawks were putting pressure on the Landry-Scola frontcourt, while Battier had no answer for Joe Johnson's hot shooting. The 22-2 run had less to do with Wafer being subbed out than Yao coming in for Scola and Artest coming in and shutting down Johnson. As for Wafer, the positive was that he was aggressive and put pressure on the Hawks. He definitely brought energy to the game. The negative was he handled the ball a lot and wasn't doing a good job getting other Rocket players involved in the offense. A few drive and dish but that's about it. He also seemed out of control quite a few times. I saw Scola set up in the low post but IIRC he only received the ball once, and that was from Battier. Bottom line is Wafer has potential but needs work. If he can figure out how to play within the offense while maintaining his intensity, he'll definitely get more opportunities in the next month.
It's a huge difference b/t them, they cannot do anything to make up for it.Height is height, you're born with it in your gene pool, face it Head! And Wafer plays smart on the court, driving hard to the paint, drawing contact to get the call, other than settling for the 3 point shots no matter what situation is. If Head keep on playin' like that,we should definitely eat the head
Hola! Just how late is it, anyway? I liked Luther Head. I really liked him. He's still a bit too young a player to give up on, but my feeling is that Luther hasn't developed, or can't develop, into what the Rockets could have used him as before Aaron Brooks was drafted. Somebody to spell Rafer Alston at the point guard spot. Maybe even give McGrady a rest at the two. Luther player 3 in college at Illinois, with a backcourt of Deron Williams and Dee Brown. Generally, wing players know how to play without the ball (making good cuts on defenders, using screens to get open, etc.). Luther does this better than anybody else on the team. Just like a good three-man does. But Luther can't play three in this league. Three-men in the NBA can play center in college. What Luther hasn't done is adapt his game to play guard in the NBA. He handles the ball poorly, and that's being nice. And that poor ball handling more often than not translates into bad decisions. Good NBA guards (whether or not they're points or twos) can't be sloppy with the basketball. They can't need a road map and traffic cones in order to get around the court. Jason Terry of Dallas has always given the Rockets fits. He's about 6'3''. He does everything you need a guard in this league to do, and he does it extremely well. I know it's late, and that this is a family site, but size doesn't matter. Von Wafer is a better player than Luther Head is at this moment, because Von Wafer can handle the basketball. I've seen Von Wafer set up Yao Ming with some nice passes under the basket off his penetration (that Yao couldn't finish...AARRGH!) more often in his month on this roster than I've seen from Luther Head in three seasons. That's not good. For Head. Do something with the basketball, and you can play in the NBA. And that something usually is to handle it it was on a string instead of like a cancerous boil. Hope you're paying attention, Luther. Like I said, I liked him as a player. A guy in from the D-league just came in a gave you a glimpse of your future...
the difference is head has proven to be a better player than von over time. what has wafer ever accomplished in the nba. luther has been a decent player in the rotation for a good team. both are better than brent barry right now
