So the court has the old Rockets logo, but that doesn't mean Ming is going to play for the Rocks.
Did he actually said he was coming here?

Get over it I have very good sources Mings not coming to the Rockets.
And hahaha yes Dunleavy would suit our needs better than Ming
Trouble with many is everyone wants to go back to the dominate center days of Hakeem and live anoher story telling year. NOT GONNA HAPPEN

The Nba is more run and gun pop and shoot it is more fast paced If you think Rockets will draft Ming then you must be inline waiting for them to fire rudy.

Dunleavy fits with this team on what we need we are just 2 players shy of having a pretty damn strong team.

Funny...the "dominant big man " theory seems to have worked the past couple of years...not to mention that until somone else in the west gets a big man, they aren't beating the Lakers.

Also...you must be a soothsayer...not only do you know we aren't winning the lottery, you also know that Dunleavy is coming out.

    TroyBaros,

are you saying you would rather have another shooter...an unproven small forward at that...than a rebounding, shotblocking 7'5" center?

hmmm...interesting basketball knowledge we have at cc.net.

Wang ZhiZhi, I believe, played for a team in China called the Rockets. Our 7'6" center in question plays for the Shanghai Sharks, ZhiZhi played for the Rockets...but I forget which city that's in over there.

    Verse,

You might not realize that the word chinaman is a derogatory term for a person of Chinese descent. I am not sure what is so offensive about the word itself, just know that it is suppose to be insulting.

    BigTwoston,

I am not yelling at Verse or calling him names, am I? All I did is pointed out to Verse that the word he used is offensive to a person that we wanted on our team. I know many people use that term without knowing that is offensive and this is a good time to point it out. Would you prefer that Verse actually offended someone first and then explain to him the meaning of the word. Shouldn’t we use words that make Ming feel welcome instead of uncomfortable?

Are you suggesting that I should never point out to others if they unknowingly use derogatory words and did not know the meaning behinds it? I hope you would not tell me to get a life if I told someone he/she should not said things like “I did not have sex with that n!gger”. But if that is the type of life you want me to get, I think I’ll pass.

Not to make a big deal out of it, but "chinaman" is an offensive term, with historical connotations very similar to that of the "n-word." Using it out of ignorance is no excuse.

Given that there are already political machinations involved in where Ming ends up playing, the members of one of the biggest/best Rockets fan sites would be well-served to take that into consideration.

I can easily understand why people use the term “chinaman” without knowing it is offensive. Because terms like Frenchman, German, … etc are not offensive as far as I know. But I failed to see why BigTwoston told me to get a life when all I did is pointed out to Verse that he should not use that word. :(

    (sigh)
    :(

exactly. and i would think that if you a) read the post above mine b) had any knowledge of bill clinton and c) read what rblh just posted (and i just quoted) then you would know my intentions...

political correctness blows. i have never understood how a word can offend someone easily. the CONTEXT of that word means so much more than the word itself.

still, this is the world we live in.

    (sigh)
    :(

"the CONTEXT of that word means so much more than the word itself" is right. Besides the context in which you were using the word, a context which I know was not meant to be offensive, there is a probably a larger more important historical context for that word that does make it offensive....hmmmm......

Can't hear that word without thinking of the Big Lebowski...

"Dude, Chinamen is not the proper nomenclature..."

Oh, btw... I love Dunleavy, but I'd rather have a 7'6 shot-blocking center. The game has evolved away from them because there aren't enough :). There are the haves (the Lakers and Spurs), and the have-nots (everyone else). Let's join the haves...

sorry but that makes no sense

the context of a word is how we define every word and how we give every word meaning and usage.

every single word of course has inherently no qualities by itself other than being composed of letters and basic denominators like that.

every word we speak is based on contexts used before

verse wasn't trying to do any harm of course

and it's easier to neglect political correctness when you're a white middle class middle aged guy who isn't on the receiving end most of the time

    anybody want a cracker? :D

by the way... (houstone - that page has chinese characters... not japanese!! man, you don't want to even go back to how the japanese/korean/chinese conflicts and hate go back)
