http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/6158281.html i'm not sure i could have any more respect for roy. the guy is doing all he can to get peavy here. truly going above and beyond. i'm still holding out hope that we wind up with him. and also: http://houston.astros.mlb.com/news/...t_id=3711935&vkey=news_hou&fext=.jsp&c_id=hou i'm a true off-season optimist, and in-season pessimist, but those comments by wade make me feel like he's bursting at the seams trying to hold in some big news that's about to go down.
Jack Wilson is available. I'd like to see Tejada move to 3B...trade Wigginton for some younger talent...and play Wilson at SS. That's not going to happen, but I'd like to see it!
Easy there, its not like Oswalt is giving up any money, he's just offering to delay some of it. Big deal.
Even if we had all the money in the world available, we still couldn't get Peavy. We just don't have anywhere near the prospects. Words can't describe just how bad this farm system is at the upper levels. It might be better at the lower levels, but it's too soon to tell on a lot of those guys, and those aren't the kinds of prospects that get major deals done anyway.
anything is possible. you bring a 3rd team in and they add prospects to the mix. like the earlier rumor of us shipping pence to pads, wiggy and valverde to somebody else, and that 3rd team giving back prospects to the pads. maybe we supply a mid-level prospect as well or something. something like this could realistically happen. SD giving the cubs the deadline of today to get a peavy deal done makes things pretty interesting. keep hope alive.
http://www.sportsline.com/mcc/blogs/entry/6270335/12230187 Cubs out of Peavy talks. and the plot thickens... c'mon drayton. git 'er done.
As if the Union would let him give up money anyways. They always have fits about players doing that. Oswalt is one player I hope we never trade.
If the Cubs couldn't get it done...even involving a 3rd team...I don't think the 'stros could. Just not enough to give, unfortunately.
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bb/6159786.html Astros acquire three on Rule 5 draft day The Astros took pitcher Gilbert De La Vara from the Kansas City Royals in the Rule 5 draft held Thursday at the Winter Meetings in Las Vegas. De La Vara, a 24-year-old left-hander went 3-3 with a 3.65 ERA as a reliever for Wilmington — a Royals Class A affiliate. He had no record and a 5.15 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 19 innings in the Arizona Fall League. The team also acquired Orioles Rule 5 pick Louis Palmisano for cash considerations. The 26-year-old catcher hit .297 in Class A and Rookie-level games last year in the Milwaukee organization. He hit .405 (15-for-37) in the Arizona Fall League with nine RBIs and two home runs. In addition, Houston drafted 25-year-old outfielder Andrew Locke from the Dodgers organization in the Class AAA portion of the Rule 5 draft.
I didn't know it was in the CBA. I just remember they were telling A-Rod he couldn't give up any money in order to be traded to the Red Sox, before he was eventually traded to the Yankees.
He spent two years at AA and was on the 40 man roster in Milwaukee before getting injured last winter. In an interesting turn of synchronicity, he was dropped from the Brewer's 40 man when they signed Mike Lamb.
no way we keep 2 A-ball guys on our roster, right? Why spend the money? edit: ok I see the catcher reasoning above..
