8th grade, district tourney champeeeenship game. We're down 3 w/ about 10 secs left & this dude jacks up a wild 3 & I get the rebound, sink a sweet little jump hook & get fouled. At this point, after playing pretty much the whole game, I'm exhausted & now I'm nervous as hell & ask our coach to call timeout so I can relax a little & catch my breath. Of course, b@stard says no. Long story short, my freebie does the ol' back rim-front rim-back rim shuffle, bounces out & we lose.

    My $0.02:

    - My most demoralizing basketball experience would be when I was used as a launching pad for a layup. Basically I was turned around facing the basket. I saw the ball go up then felt a sharp pain. More than likely he kicked me.

    - Never ball with a girl. If you win, you're a p***y. If you lose, you're a p***y. I remember playing 5 on 5 full court and a girl was assigned to cover me. My team froze me out the whole game. If that wasn't bad, she was clawing me the whole time. I let her have her shots but when I got the ball she would claw until I gave it up. Finally I got fed up and told a friend to set a pick. He laughed and then told the girl.

    - There's nothing more demoralizing than getting dunked on. I know someone who got dunked on at Gregory by a UT player. Poor guy couldn't stop talking about it. He kept asking "why?" and "did u see it?".

Important Q...how many timeouts did he have left? I can understand his decision if it was his last timeout...probably want to save it in case you miss the shot and get the board to stop the clock and set up a play. If he had a few left, I couldn't understand why he didn't call it. I'm surprised the other coach didn't call one to try and "ice" you at the line...

I got stuffed by the very point guard I coached in a teacher student game in front of the whole school. I had to redeem myself so I proceeded to drain 4 treys.

The Varsity girls basketball coach would ask me to scrimmage my freshmen boys team. We were always one of the teams to beat in our district, so the girls saw it as good prctice. It was. It helped both teams. We would press them and then break their press. Of course it also helped sharpen both my and the other coaches skills because this was full speed game situation. At first, the guys were worried about the touchy feely thing, but I told them that they are just athletes, and if you let appearance or physical stature intimidate you, you've already lost the game. They forgot about the differences once they were the victims of a hard screen or a sealing post. Those girls were pretty tough. Once they forgot about the differences, they played theur game, and like I said before, everyone got something out of it...DON'T BE PERVERTED!!!

Actually, I had a decent career. However, twice, once in 4th grade and once in 8th grade, I scored for the other team. Hell, the one in 4th grade was bad because I missed the first one and tried again! :D The one in 8th grade wasn't bad because it was my one and only triple double game as I led Katy Jr. High over Mayde Creek with 18 pts, 12 assists, and 15 rebounds playing my only game at point guard. :) Yup that was the peak. :(

    Those are Andre Miller numbers!!

My late dad played basketball at Reagan Junior High. One game he scored all of his team's points. They got whupped 17-1.

In 9th grade, my brother had the pleasure of playing against the juggernaut at Wheatley High School that would become (if I remember correctly) a 3-time Texas state champion. At half time, they were down something like 34-1. Their coach was a high school linebacker coach whose most famous line was, "Boys, do you reckon if I put a little hair around it that you guys could find that hole?"

This is a pretty good thread! I just hope I don't end up posting here after the pickup game Saturday.

Freshman year of high school. Gym class. The week we played basketball (every week it was something different) I had never played before, well the guy inbounds the ball to me, I try to catch it and the ball catches my pinkie and if you can imagine your pinky bent at a 90 degree angle if you are holding your hand straight and your bone on the verge of puncturing your skin then instinctively looking at it and popping it back into place! That was me and my first and last experience with basketball until I was about 30 and I played with Mr Oily.. I sucked then too. I just suck at basketball. I'd rather watch it on TV!!

I played in a benefit game when I was in Highschool. I went to private school and my team had just won a state basketball title. The school I would have gone to had also just won a state title. The coach of that team went to my church and we were pretty good friends. SO in the game he was guarding me. A couple of times down the court I posted him up and scored. On the other end heposted me up once and scored then the second time I pulled a cagey veteran NBA move and put a body on him then as he backed up I moved causing him to fall down and travel. Well he laughed at me and he wasn't mad but I talked a little trash to him. So the next time on offense I post him up again(I guess I should clarify that I am not real tall but I learned how to play post when I was little and could post up people that were my height or a little taller).. So he decides to teach my high school punk ass a lesson. When they start to feed me the ball. He reaches down and yanks my shorts down. I was pretty embarassed because there were 2 girls in the crowd i was interested in. the only thing that helped was I actually had a second pair of shorts on but they looked like boxers so everyone thought it was my drawers hanging out. Need less to say it threw me off my game a bit so I did not score much more after that.

Well, everytime I play now is pretty demoralizing because I just can't do it anymore. I was always a very physical, quick, slashing type of player...now with the knees gone, I can't do as much and don't have as much fun. I am stubborn, though, and will often push myself to the point of extreme pain...maybe that is why the doctor says no basketball ever again...hmmm.

When my knees wren't quite as shot, I played Jeryl Sasser. I think he was a freshman in college at the time. He was damn good. The best one one player I have ever seen in real life - not at a pro game game. He barely tried and made everyone look silly (I had to share the pain).

A HS friend I played a lot led div.I one year in assists, but I don't know whatever happened to him after college. I think he would always beat me about 15 - 5. Ah, good memories.

ANyway, since I injured my first knee as a hs freshman, my high level success was limited.

Maybe the time I blew my knew out at the downtown YMCA in Nashville.

I once had to guard former Chicago Bull Charles Davis. That wasn't pretty although he did take it easy on me by shooting mostly 3 pointers.

I've given a few back too. I once pinned a former UT Vol players' shot up against the backboard. Damn that felt good.
