I've been to a few hockey games, they're better in person than on tv for sure. Outlaw and frye for battier would really help both teams. Battier would give them experience they could use and outlaw and frye gives th rox size and atheleticism that we need. When they get webster back, they are going to have a logjam at the swing spot.
i thought soccer or lacrosse was the least popular american sport. and aren't the washington capitals the team that is staged to lose against the harlem globetrotters in every game???
Aren't NHL games outdrawing the NBA in terms of attendance? Hockey games actually do pretty well for itself, it's the TV ratings that suck. I blame the Vs channel for it, the NHL should have never left ESPN.
i was at the game with my vendor on my business trip up here this week. even though i was cordially rooting for the home team, i couldn't help but smile and cheer when blazers got the other end of that horrible buzzer beater. haha. one of the guys i went with that reminded me of the houston buzzer beater said that they couldn't say anything cuz they got one on houston. i gotta say though, the portland crowd was amazing. they don't have the nice 'club' area the TC does, but they do have bars and areas where you can hang out. however, everyone is in their seats during the game. i was very envious. if i was in portland and was a blazers fan, i would definitely buy season tickets, because the arena is always packed and loud. it was a regular season game in the second quarter, and the DEFENSE chant that was going on during a mini rally was louder than some of the defense chants i heard during the playoff game last year against the jazz. this was my second time at a blazers home game, and i really have to say, the lower bowl at the TC makes me really sad. granted, the stadium is smaller, tickets may be cheaper, blah blah. one day i hope that the rockets games will be like what i experienced in portland, even during the regular season.
I actually thought about that same trade last night. I like the idea of getting Outlaw but I'm not sure how Frye would fit into our needs. I like Frye as he is a big body and has a nice jumper but the dude flat out plays soft and plays much smaller than he is. I watch a lot of Blazer games living in Portland and the guy can give you solid points if given PT but he is not good at rebounding, blocking out, protecting the paint or playing good defense. For a legit 6'11 player you'd also expect him to average at least 1 block a game just by default. I think he has fallen out of favor in Ptown. Can we use him? Sure. Will he solve our needs as a backup center? Not likely. Can he put in 15 mins or so to let Yao get a breather? Yes. The trade of Battier though would help Portland out tremendously and I'm not so willing to help out one of our competitors. Portland is a Battier away from making the playoffs for sure. They need a veteran leader that provides good leadership to help them through the second half of the season when the season gets tough and prevent another breakdown like last year. Also another high quality individual both on an off the the court Portland would love to have him. I'm a big fan of T-Law but with the emergence of Wafer I'm willing to pass on Outlaw especially at the expense of Battier and hope that we can sign Deke and make a move for Head. If there's any realistic piece (ie not Roy, Fernandez, Oden, Aldridge) that I'd really want from the Blazers it'd be Joel Pryzbilla. He plays like Deke from a few years ago. He is the type of center we need to spell Yao. Not Frye.
Do not want Travis Outlaw or Frye on the Rockets. Outlaw is not bright and Frye is softer than a pillow. Giving up Shane for them would be a gift to the Blazers. I agree the Rockets should demand Przybilla for Shane as a starting point. I have a feeling Outlaw will be traded once Martell is healthy and up to speed.
If there is a way to get Outlaw without giving up Battier, I'm all for it. Would the Blazers be interested in expiring contracts and draft picks?
I'm sure if they wanted draft picks, their demands will be high. They also are unlikely to trade with a Western Conference team which is one of their main competitors right now. Expiring contracts aren't going to be enough IMO.
For Outlaw, they want something tangible in return. The way their current player contracts are set up, an expiring does them no good. Regarding draft picks, with their young roster it's the last thing they need and Pritchard has already accumulated too many extra picks.
I wasn't counting soccer or lacrosse as major sports, even through they may be technically. I just meant among the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL. There used to be an NBA team called the Washington Capitols with an "o". There was also an ABA team called the Washington Caps. I was referring to the NHL team: http://capitals.nhl.com/
If you have a good broadband internet connection and a decent monitor, get League Pass Broadband. $99.95 for the season. I HIGHLY recommend it.
