hey guys I am kind getting the feeling that my current company may go under in the next 3-5 months with the way things are going right now so I had started to look for other jobs in the meantime. I have two interviews lined up this week, but I was talking to my cousin over the weekend and he suggested that I should look into getting a SAP certification. Has anyone here gotten one? What type of certification? What was the costs like? doing some quick research it looks like its about 10-13k to take the courses necessary to get a certification and they are 1-3 days courses that are pretty rigorous from what i found. that doesnt scare me but is it worth it? the last thing i would want to do is take out another student loan for a certification that may not pay dividends for me down the line.
PMP requires experiences. It's not just an exam that you could take. I don't know much about SAP. But if you are looking for quick certs that can help you with your employment, look into Oracle. MS Sharepoint is very hot right now as well.
Not sure about SAP, other than it can be a career if you want it to be. Sucks about your job man! Let me know if you need some help.
yeah it sucks i like it here but recent happenings at work that i was made privy to made it seems like its like 3-5 months tops and the worst thing about it? its because the COO (minority owner) and the President (majority owner) of the company have personal and professional issues with each other that is causing the company to fall apart. its pretty petty on both their parts, more so on the president who is well into his 70s and should have retired long ago but hasn't because he wants to draw a salary on top of his shareholder distribution
SAP is good if you can get it but I think those Certs are generally Company funded. I'm on the lower end. . . looking to get a CCNA next Rocket River low on the it Totem pole
I would think you would get a job with a big company if you got the certification. We work with SAP people all the times here at my job.
How do you become a SAP basis administrator? I was looking at the pay rate and it's something like $100 an hour.
There is no such thing as getting SAP Certified. You have to get certified in specific modules (MM, SD, PM, etc) and even then you won't find a job without any experience. SAP is one of those things where you wont get a job without experience, and you cant get experience without starting out somewhere. SAP Basis is basically a DBA, Security Admin, and a Program debugger all in one with specified SAP knowledge. The way most people get into Basis is either having previous Technical experience and their company switches over to SAP and they are trained. Or someone straight out of college is trained by a consulting firm and put on a project. Most of those people probably aren't certified, and even if they are, they are specifically certified in one or two modules. No such thing as being "SAP Certified"
In the meantime you can always get CAPM certification. Yoyo, what do you exactly do now? Edit: whoops, just realized this is a 4 year old thread that was bumped
Simply put, its not worth spending your own money on a certification. There are boatloads of Indians that have done the same thing and are willing to come to America for 1/10th of what you would be paid. Only thing is they also lie on their resume and say they have 10 years of experience along with some certification they took.
lol I was worried about The_Yoyo also, he was talking highly about his job last time I saw him, but noticed the date
