At least in the regular season, he seems to be making all the clutch dagger 3's. Good night, bad night, regular night, he's going to make that dagger. Just a thread recognizing his contribution in that aspect. Props to Yao and the Rockets, and to Ron Artest for his heart. What a nice way to make it up to the fans for that no-show in Memphis (barring a T-Mac 13 in 33 seconds performance from JJ)
law of percentages my friend. when you jack up enough, you're going to make some. and those rafer 3s are always open shots anyways. so again, law of percentages. he was 3-14 before that shot.
posted by code red: STOP SHOOTING RAFER ALSTON! YOU SUCK TONIGHT! 3-14! SHAMEFUL! 3-14! SHAMEFUL! 3-14! SHAMEFUL! 3-14! SHAMEFUL! 3-14! SHAMEFUL! 3-14! SHAMEFUL! 3-14! SHAMEFUL! 3-14! SHAMEFUL! That guy got Reefer'd.
Please, don't jinx it Actually if Rafer made half of his missed shots in the first three quarters, we won't even need to climb back from a big hole like that.
He's carrying on the Horry/Maxwell spirit. Disappears/can't shoot most of the game, but in the 4th qaurter... DEADLY.
But you guys have to acknowledge the fact that Rafer seemed to forget his role sometimes. I have a problem with Rafer if he keeps jacking up those shots at the wrong time. I don't want our point guard to shoot us out of a game. Rafer should never have taken more shots than Yao or Ron !
Don't ever disrespect those guys by comparing them to brick to my lou. His teardrop/floater might as well be considered a turnover.
That still doesn't change the fact that he hits a lot of clutch 3's that pretty much puts the dagger in our opponents in the 4th qt.
I actually like Rafer Alston, he just needs to take shots he's more comfortable with. His dagger 3's are becoming normal.
I dont care what you Rafer Lovers say. I hate him, he is a horrible starting PG. His so-called clutch 3 pointers after going 3-14 isn't clutch at all. His mediocrity is so accepted that folks seem to believe he is the only reason the Rockets win, when in reality, he has a horrible overall track record to include the playoffs. Again, his mediocrity being so accepted that when Rafer actually makes a 3, a shot in the 4th quarter (which is quite rare) then everyone jumps up and down to proclaim him a savior. If Rafer is as you say, the "Clutch Master" for this team then I guess we will all have to accept mediocrity for as long as he is on the team.
I think you forget the ineffectiveness of Maxwell's pull up jumper. Many a rim took abuse from that thing.
Just calling it how I see it, friend. It seems to be a trend this season, even with the Big 3 on the floor, Rafer has the balls to take and make dagger 3's. I'm by no means a Rafer lover, it's just that I don't mind him too much. He still makes me scratch my head with some of the shots he puts up (T-Mac difficulty without T-Mac ability), but he's not bad. Again, giving props to Rafer for his dagger sticking skills. tmac1, law of percentages aside, he seems to have a penchant for hitting dagger 3's this season. Always in the 4th when we need it. I agree that if he throws it up enough, he'll make some of them. But that doesn't account for the timing of it. Props to Rafer and props to the team! Just hope they can do this better and more consistently! It's gotten to a point where I'm not that happy when they win and not that bummed when they lose, simply because I don't know what the win or the loss means about the team. Here's to hoping that they finally develop some damn consistency!
Before today's game, Rafer was shooting 38.5% on 3s in the fourth quarter. Not bad. A couple of seasons ago, I believe he was over 40% on the threes in the final period. Not sure what it was last year.
I think we all could do without his mini-mac heat check running threes that he seems to be increasingly doing.. game by game.. when he goes for the 2-for-1.. that's fine.. when he does it with a plenty on the shot clock.. right at the beginning and middle of a quarter.. that's crap..
