Just goes to show you how much Kobe being the most clutch player in the league and LeBron being unclutch are both myths.
Kobe's clutchness is the ability to hit the last shot. This is talking about the last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter. Kobe is the most capable player in the NBA as far as getting to a spot where he's comfortable and hitting a jump shot on someone in a 1on1 situation. Lebron is not a good shooter but he's a great player.
Naahh, I saw that with my own eyes in 2004 (NBA Finals), 2006 (1st Rnd), 2007 (1st Rnd), and 2008 (NBA Finals). Notice in every single elimination game for the Lakers above, they lost by double digits. I'm gonna get flamed for this, but Kobe is one of the most overrated players in the history of the NBA.
You could say that based on achievements (w/o Shaq or a really good team around him). I think he just plays the least important position in basketball (SG). Everytime an NBA is asked or says who the best NBA player is, they say either themselves, Lebron or Kobe.
Back it up with some facts and you won't get flamed. Don't think you have a case though for most overrated, there have been plenty of guys that haven't achieved what he has.
When it comes down to one final jump shot in the clutch, I'd take Paul Pierce, Carmelo Anthony, and probably Gilbert Arenas over Kobe.
When he is being considered to be the greatest player of all time? Yes..he is overrated. When he is mentioned as being an equal to Michael Jordan? Yes...he is. When he is being put ahead of players, like Magic, Larry Bird, Kareem, Wilt, Oscar Robertson, and even our own Dream? I think he is definitely overrated. I'm not saying he's not the best player in the NBA or one of the all time greats, but I think his impact is less than what people make of it.
Because he has proven to be the best...? http://www.82games.com/random12.htm The stats are a little stale, but they still hold truth. Notice that Kobe is actually bad by this measurement. Don't let his ranking by made shots fool you. He has the most attempts and hits at a poor percentage.
Well, ok. But I still wouldn't give Carmelo the last shot. Btw, McGrady is number 7. and STEVE FRANCIS number 4. It is kinda nice to see. Btw, Kobe looks really bad, shooting like 22%.
same question...... anyway, if we stick to stats, we get truth but we may also lose a lot of fun and motivation to watch the games. MJ missed lots of clutch shots also, but who cares? he was remembered for "the shot", shot over Russel.etc.
They don't but they also don't tell you everything... There are a lot of players whom I'd choose over Carmelo. Just my opinion.
Those guys rarely have the speed advantage and ball handling to get to where they want to on the court. They are very clutch shooters though. Kobe usually gets close to the free throw line while they end up shooting 3's or long 2's (like alot of stars do). Basically he's the best at getting himself the best opportunity and he can shoot. Other than that its seems like there's a lot of luck to be factored in and i don't know how much statistics would matter in this with such a low sampling size for everyone. I don't doubt that there were guys that were more clutch statistically than Michael Jordan but what does that really mean. I mean...come on...that stat makes it seem that Damon Jones is more clutch than Lebron James.
These stats represent a single moment in a game where a shot either goes in or it doesn't. This isn't like comparing career averages without looking at other factors. Any variation in other aspects of that single moment where the shot is taken are pretty much thrown out the window when you consider how badly Carmelo dominates the rest of the field. He's made more and at a much higher clip than anyone else. I wonder how reactions would differ if Kobe were leading the list instead of wallowing with the bottom feeders.
