Sorry, I know this thread has probably already been posted, but I wanted a little input before i go spend $300 on a system. Any information would help. Thanks.
What I don't understand is, if you realized that this subject has come up before (and it has numerous times) why didn't you use the search option and look up one of the many threads?
X-Box's have been scratching up CDs, William doesnt need any more money. Just help the poor people in Japan and buy a PS2.
Several of my previous post on this topic. 1 2 HALO - my favorite game xbox vs gamecube thread I really enjoy my XBOX - Halo is my favorite game with Madden 2002 and NHL 2002 as close seconds. I also like the new James Bond game - 007 Agent Under Fire. NBA 2k2 is really fun also. Sweet graphics. Like Lil Pun said, just search for it.
None of my CD's (dvd's) have been scratched, the system does lock up sometimes, usually after I play it for a few days straight without turning it off. Something about Microsoft products, they just have to be rebooted every now and then.
Most problems I know about have been the result of importing your own songs from pirated/burned CDs into one's XBOX.
It's just hardware vs software right now. No doubt Xbox is the more powerful system, but PS2 has a lot of great games. There just aren't that many killer apps right now for Xbox and don't look like many in the next few months either. Maybe they'll come out with some sort of surprise at E3. I say go with the system who's games you like the most. If you like FPS games, don't need a lot of games, and are really really wanting to dig into the online games, Xbox is probly the way to go. If you want a huge library of great games to choose from(some hitting the $20 range very soon, with the "greatest hits" tag) then PS2 is the way to go, esp if you dig rpg type games. GameCube will be a pretty damn good system once its killer apps come out(Zelda, Starfox, Mario, Eternal Darkness)
Good advice, Crisco. I own a XBox and I'm waiting for online. There's some really cool FPS games coming out for online play by the end of the year. The quality of the xbox games has been getting better as well since the release. Also, if you care about Dolby Digital 5.1 and/or HDTV support, then you might consider XBox over PS2. But, if you want a selection of alot of games NOW and don't care about any of that Home Theater mumbo jumbo, then go PS2. The scratch disc problem only happened in Japan and it's very minor. It probably hurt sales over there. I think they have only sold about 170,000 XBoxes in Japan since the release while PS2 sold 1 million in that same time frame. But, Japanese would probably rather buy Japanese products anyway and I'm sure their skeptical of anything Microsoft. It kind of sucks for us though as if the XBox doesn't do well in Japan, then their developers have less incentive to make games for it and will probably go with what has the bigger fan base...which is PS2. After all...it's all about making money. That stuff said....I don't play my XBox a whole lot these days not because it doesn't have enough games or quality games....but rather because I'm not a big gamer right now. I play some Half-Life Counterstrike these days and thats about it. Last game I played on XBox is RallySport Challenge...which is an excellent game IMHO. Surf
Thanks for the info. The only games I really enjoy playing are sports and wrestling, and the new WWF Raw game on X-Box looks awesome, but I also played Tiger Woods golf on PS2, and X-Box doesn't offer that game. That is what scares me. I want the graphics with X-Box, but if there aren't any games, it's useless.
I just purchased an xbox this last weekend, after reading the archived threads . Halo is absolutely fabulous. I wish there were more RPGs for it. But I just couldn't help but look at the spec charts, and think: "I'm not going to pay the same price for a system that's about half as powerful."
Thanks for the links, stinks that it is only in Austin and Chicago. Let them know that I want HALO II.
Nah, I beat it on Normal. I haven't even attempted Heroic or Legendary. difficulty levels: Easy: "Your foes cower and fail before your unstoppable onslaught, yet final victory will leave you wanting more." Normal: "Hordes of aliens vie to destroy you, but nerves of steel and a quick trigger finger give you a solid chance to prevail." Heroic: "Your enemies are as numerous as they are ferocious; their attacks are devastating. Survival is not guaranteed." Legendary: "You face opponents who have never known defeat, who laugh in alien tongues at your efforts to survive. This is suicide."
I've beaten Halo with Heroic playing with another kid. How do you play online? I'd imagine it would be awesome on the versus modes.
you can't go wrong with either system and nobody talks about the gamecube but it's atleast as powerful as the ps2 and cheaper. nintendo has some nice games coming up as well. personally i play the x-box the most simply because of halo. there have been many a sleepless night playing multiplayer deathmatch with 3 or 4 friends, it's just too much fun. almost worth the price of the system alone. like everyone else has said, ps2 has the greater selection, x-box has the most power.
