They say the meek shall inherit the Earth. Bukowski replied "that's because stupid people are really patient" (paraphrase). Something is hanging over Seattle right now. If the trade doesn't go down... who's in trouble? Certainly not Wally World. Paul Westphal. True coach of the 1993 World Champions... ooops wrong post. Paul Westphal, I mean, the coach most likely to lose his job in the next month. His quiet demeanor doesn't invoke the confidence that one franchise player demands in Seattle. Seattle didn't even confer w/ Payton about the trade. Even if, for a semblance of chemistry, Payton puts a smile on the trade- he will be the first to distance himself from it when bad times arise (i.e. Ewing on the bench for > 30% of the season). Who will be on the outs? Is Walker going to trade Payton just to protect Westphal? If things go awry will the team look at a 38 year old Ewing as a scapegoat? No. This is a grasp for change. Westphal is trying to solidify his job. Unfortunately for him, if the trade fails he loses his job, if the trade succeeds and the team loses he loses his job. What a predicament... unless you're Coach Thompson looking in. ------------------ I've posted so much that what I say must be true. Very astute observation heb. If this trade ever gets done (which I don't think it will) the Sonics can't win. Patrick has proven the last 2 seasons that he cannot stay healthy for an entire season anymore. The Sonics would lose a lot of games in the western conf. without a center. ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know.
I've always assumed it was a move to get out from under Baker's contract, and to free up cap space for the following year. I don't see it as a move for this year. Face it, Ewing is through. He's just like Hakeem was a couple of years ago -- puts up solid numbers while he's in there, but his team is not as effective with him getting lots of touches. Plus, the guy is always hurt. If Ewing signs any kind of extension with Seattle, then it's a terrible deal for them. If they let Ewing walk next year or sign -n- trade him, then I think it's a very good move. ------------------ "All these white guys running onstage making believe they're in gangs...Gangs would chew 'em up and spit them out. They'd put peas and carrots alongside them. 'Yo wussup! My name is Eminem.' Really? I'd like to see you walk down the streets alone in Harlem at night and see where that Eminem stuff gets you." - Gene Simmons Metal Sludge
