Unbelievable. Don't know how much longer that city will be inhabitable. Incidentally, I got a terrible case of food poisoning in Venice. I was more sick there than I've ever been, before or since. Turns out, the word "enema" is the same in both English and Italian. I do not recommend the city: while it may be scenic and historic, it was filthy and smelled like sewage (yes, the whole city).
thats f*king disgusting. I've been there. Between that water and the pigeon infestation; I'd rather pick something off the ground in New York and eat it than walk in that flood.
Worst "tourist" city in Italy. I found the whole city dirty and smelly, and EVERYTHING was overpriced.
So many people have a bad recollection of Venice. I was there a long time ago, but had heard the same complaints, and I do tend to believe them. During my visit the place was clean and didn't smell bad at all; but, of course, I was there for Carnevale (Mardi Gras), so the Venetians had probably done what they could to clean up the place.
I visited Venice in the winter when it was cold ( i like the cold so this isnt a bad thing)... it didn't smell and wasn't over run by tourist. Supposedly that is the best time to visit, but I still thought the city sucked. Easily the most over rated city in Europe. If you wanna city a beautiful canal city... go to Amsterdam or Brugges. Its clean, not over priced, better food, better people, and more fun. Night life in venice is appsolutely AWFUL!. However, this comes from someone who doesn't really appreciate Italy.
Venice flooded? holy crap. that's the destination I wanna go to . when did it happen? not far from now?
Venice floods pretty much every year, but this year is very bad. Venice is a town to visit, but for only a short time and preferably in the winter. It is beautiful. I really loved Saint Mark's Basilica. As was mentioned, it can smell, it has no night life, and it is expensive. For those who do not know, the canals are part of the sewage system, which causes the smell, but it did not smell when I was there several years ago over Thanksgiving. I think the Summer time heat causes the smell along with the additional tourists.
arhh.I get it and I read the news just now,it's just the routine flood though. everybody takes it in stride. Still it's funny to see hip-waders wade through the water to get to where they're headed
eww...gross. that's pretty unbelievable that a whole city can live under such conditions. i guess that means the flooding is probably a good thing...cause it cleans everything out. the bad part is people have to walk through it. yuck!
Ahh it reminds me of what should have been New Orleans. Yes, should have been New Orleans. My operation sewage dump would have been a grand success
Venice is my favorite city in the world.. (Barcelona is a close 2nd) Of course, it didn't flood while I was there in July..
Wow, that is crazy. I went there in summer 2003. It was so-so but it was so smelly!! Yuck. Other cities I visited in Italy were better than Venice.
