http://www.82games.com/0809/FGSORT7.HTM 218 players qualified for their JUMP shooting stats at 82games.com and here are the rankings...i also added the points per game from that range as well... Brooks 2.4 ppg 42.9% 75th Scola 3.7 ppg 39.8% 106th Landry 2.4 ppg 39.3% 110th Yao 3.5 ppg 37.5% 127th Alston 2.0 ppg 31.4% 181th McGrady 4.3 ppg 31.1% 184th Artest 3.2 ppg 28.7% 196th
Yao's shooting over 50% for the season and shooting 37.% on 2-ptrs.? Um, Yao doesn't really shoot that many 3's so what games have you been watching?
I don't think this accounts for dunks or layups which is why the percentages are so low. But yes it seems as a team we're not great at shooting 2pters.
I understand, but does yao really shoot that many layups or dunks. landry used to, but not as much. with yao, as many layups as he misses I really have to question his number
What happen to your "random idiot" classification? I'm not being sarcastic either, I wish I could make my own phrase under my name!
A lot of post moves including shots from the post aren't really considered jumpshots (Unless Yao does his patented fadeaway jumpshot 7 inches from the rim)
I guess AB's 7-12 foot floaters and one-armed semi-hook shots don't qualify, but they're certainly not layups or finger-rolls..
It's probably a little too early in the season for this to be reasonable. Here are the inside shots: Landry, #3, 75.9% McGrady, #59, 62.8% Yao, #93, 58.8% Scola, #101, 58.0% Artest, #Dead Last, 37.7%
I'm thinking that floaters, runners, turn-arounds, fadeaways, etc. are NOT considered jumpshots, and so are not being included in the stats. Basically, the only thing that this stat is counting are spot-up catch-and-shoot shots that come from between 15 and 23 feet. If that is the case, then it's no wonder why the Rockets are so poor at it. In Adelman's system, the Rockets are taking MAYBE 10 of those shots a game....MAYBE. And because the system is the way it is, those 10 times it's usually a contested shot, or with the shot clock winding down. It is not a mystery that our team is not good at spot-up shooting....it's basically our biggest weakness on offense, but the system doesn't call for very many of those shots anyways. It seems that Adelman's philosophy is if you're going to be taking a regular jumpshot, you might as well have it count for 3. How many times can you remember a play run to create an uncontested 18 foot jumpshot? Now, how many times can you remember a play run to create an uncontested 3-pointer?
on 82games, a 2pt jumpshot has to be pretty far out, like a typical t-mac jumpshot. just clarifying. Still... Its pretty sad. Everyone should be in the 40-45% range.
