We are three games back at the moment, and both have 6 games remaining. Here's the schedule for both teams:

    Houston
    9 Apr - @Miami
    11 Apr - @Dallas
    12 Apr - Portland
    14 Apr - Memphis
    16 Apr - @Denver
    17 Apr - @Portland

Denver * - Must win games if Houston is to get 4 seed.
    *9 Apr - @Memphis
    10 Apr - @San Antonio
    *12 Apr - Golden State
    13 Apr - Phoenix
    *16 Apr - Houston
    17 Apr - @Minnesotta

For Houston to catch Denver we would have to lose 3 more games than them. Meaning that if we lose our remaining 6 (likely), they can only win 3. Now they have a chance of beating Golden State and Memphis and then must beat us.

I don't think we can catch Denver, but it is possible. What do you think?

lol - this thread doesnt have the same meaning that we thought at the beginning of the season.

i dont know about the rockets but we certainly are not tanking. actually playing our 2nd best ball all year right now. guys (like howard, mccloud and lenard - the vets) want to win and the youngsters (harvey, satterfield, posey) still play hard like always.

i read your board and you guys want to tank, but are the rocks REALLY tanking.

i find it unreal that any professional sports team would ever tank.

do you think francis and mobley and cato and the rest actually want to miss shots on purpose and lose games because of a few more ping pong balls in may and some high school kid or college kid they hardly konw MIGHT be on their team next year? do they think like that? common sense tells me no.

i could see maybe a coach tanking (its easier for him to make a difference) but not rudy t. too much class.

besides, do you really want to keep losing? is it worth moving up 1 spot? is that one extra spot going to give you taht much better of a kid thats going to be able to help this team that cant even win at all? its better to prove you can win now. it means more overall.

however, you cant control who wins or loses or where you pick or who you pick so i just try and enjoy the games while i can.

i actually like watching games once the pressure is off. early in the season i went nuts with EVERY play for many games. now its all for fun!

plus i remember how much i hate when the season ends all the way til the draft and then part of september. those are HORRIBLY boring times for an nba fan (if your not in the playoffs).

oh plus, maybe one of you guys can do the math for the 5th spot but the 4th spot (from our perspective) sucks!

basically we are NOT going to draft 4th. the odds say we move.

only about a quarter of a percent chance (yes .28%, .0028) we STAY at 4. it requires the bulls, grizz and warriors combinations in any order all coming up with NO OTHER TEAMS getting chosen.

about a 40% we move up (you can see the #s on clutchs lotto page thing) and therefore 60% chance we move down.

that sucks. we get screwed again. we have GONE DOWN in EVERY LOTTO we have been in EXCEPT ONE. and god knows how many lottos weve been in the last 10 years. i think 8.

being in 4th sucks. basically we are going to pick 5th and MAYBE EVEN 6th!

No, we can't catch Denver, and our chances winning the lotto to draft at #1 / #2 / #3 or almost as good even if we don't. However, with the fifth spot we might draft as low as #8. That's why it's so critical we have #14 and Kenny Thomas to use for trading up if necessary. My hope is that we win one of the first three spots to get Ming or Woods and then use #14 and K.T. to move up to around #8 to fill the other need area.
