In the past few weeks (or months?), the media has had some time with KZ2. A few weeks ago, an embargo was lifted allowing them to show off and talk about the multiplayer IIRC. Today, the embargo for the single-player campaign was lifted. Some HD videos at Gamersyde (single-player): http://www.gamersyde.com/news_7380_en.html Haven't watched them yet, but some of the videos of the multiplayer I watched a few weeks ago looked amazing. It was probably better than the single-player graphics in most/all other similar games. edit: Some things I "borrowed" from NeoGAF (thanks to "alr1ghtstart"): Spoiler
I've been in the beta for a while and its a pretty cool game. I'm not a huge multiplayer guy, but thought it was on par with COD4. The single player looks awesome though.
I've been getting a little tired of seemingly half of big game releases being FPS's for quite some time now. ...that said, those graphics are just SICK.
Yeah, I'm far from sold on KZ2, at least when it comes to the game itself (partly because it is still a little early). But I love seeing every new screenshot or video of the game. I've only downloaded 2 of the shorter videos so far, but I also checked out some screens from the other videos. Some of them are just crazy, and such a large step forward compared to what is out there on store shelves IMO (except maybe Crysis of course). Actually, it seems like they put in a decent amount of visual upgrades just from the trailer they showed last year (more polygons, better lighting, textures, etc.), and that trailer showed off some of the best graphics for a console game IMO (at least from what I can recall). They did make a few different artistic design choices that I don't quite like though, but...it is a WIP. Don't know how the game will turn out, but I like seeing what the PS3 (and possibly the 360) are really capable of when it comes to visuals.
From what I can tell, I don't think Killzone is really comparable to Halo...except for the FPS part. And I don't mean that in terms of quality, sales, online activity, or anything like that. KZ2 is more like Call of Duty if anything. Maybe COD with the production values of Halo...and some of the gore of Gears. Resistance is probably more comparable to Halo.
Game looks pretty kick ass but the sniper sequences always are a little disappointing to me. Just because the game has a sniper rifle doesn't mean there is good sniper content. I have yet to find a game that requires you to sneak and wait and get the "one shot, one kill" like you really should as a sniper.
I don't think they can do that in a run and gun FPS like Killzone. I think what you're looking for is more in terms of what a Ghost Recon title would have. It's less arcadey and more realistic than the CODs, Halos, and Killzones. If they tried to make the sniper that realistic, it would unbalance the rest of the weapons in the game. Anyways, the graphics in this game are phenomenal! I didn't think it would but it looks awfully close to the target render from 2005.
As far as the Beta is concerned I gotta say I find myself playing Unreal Tourny and COD more..........
COD4 was close to having that sort of feel. IIRC, you had to shoot some terrorist while taking in the direction and speed of the wind etc.
Was just about to post the same thing, not to mention that you had the choice of whether to take someone out or bypass him. As for as KZ2, the graphics look ridiculous. Hopefully the gameplay will be just as good since I'm waiting for that to come out before I buy another game.
Gametrailers put up two interviews about the tech, art, and audio of KZ2: <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="392"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=43389"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=43389" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" allowFullScreen="true" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="392"></embed> </object> <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=8,0,0,0" id="gtembed" width="480" height="392"> <param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /> <param name="movie" value="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=43392"/> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.gametrailers.com/remote_wrap.php?mid=43392" swLiveConnect="true" name="gtembed" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" allowFullScreen="true" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="480" height="392"></embed> </object> Some pieces of info I saw from various previews (think these are from the IGN one in particular though): Some screens I liked: Spoiler Comparison shot from what they demoed last year:
