HDMI would be ideal, but there is no special way to hook it up. Just pop in the Bluray and it'll play.

Biggest negative about PS3 as a bluray player: Bluetooth wireless ONLY. That means you can't use a universal remote to control it and have to invest in the $20 remote if you want a regular remote.

You CAN control it with the controller, however.

www.monoprice.com for HDMI (or any other) cables. Don't overspend on cables at retail stores.

It only takes me 1 minute to watch p*rn now, instead of the usual 2 minutes. It's that damn good.

This is the the a/v receiver that I have

I took it out of the daisy chain and the problem continued to exist.

I'd say it's worth it, if you have something bigger than a 40". It's a bit of a waste if you're watching on a small TV. The difference on larger sets (or projectors) is pretty drastic though.

Yes it's definitely worth it, once you start to watch blu-ray it's hard to watch a regular DVD because you will be so used to the clarity of the picture. Not to mention the sound quality is 100x better.

    that's only if:

    1. you have a hdtv that's setup correctly
    2. decent speakers
    3. a decent receiver that decodes the higher sound codecs

to me, DTS-HD doesn't sound a 100x times better than DTS.

    Blu Ray >>>>>> Standard DVD
    Upconverting DVD >>>> Standard DVD
    Blu Ray > Upconverting DVD

    All this is assuming:
HDMI cables being used and not components
    A 1080p screen more than 45 inches
And watching discs that the studio wasn't lazy with

Some movies, the difference is far more drastic than others. Cinematography becomes huge.
Smaller TVs with lesser resolution makes the differences tougher to notice.
HDMI hookups are a must. You definitely lose quality with components, S-vid, or analogs.

To be completely honest, anyone that has an upconverting DVD player really isn't missing out on a whole lot. I received a BR last Xmas and really enjoy it, but it wouldn't ruin my life if I went back to an UpConv.

So is it safe to say that Blu-Ray will look about as good as HD programming does on my TV? Because I have a 42" 720p with an upconverting DVD player (connected through HDMI) and my HD programming looks soooo much better than DVD's. If it looks as good as my HD programming, I'd definitely get a Blu-Ray.

Who do you have your HD programming through? Blu-ray is WAY BETTER THAN HD programming through U-verse.

You must have DirecTV i'm guessing because for me upscaled DVD looks better than U-verse HD programming.

I have Comcast HD and I've also got an over the air HD antenna for when the cable goes out. Those both look great to me. 360 games also look awesome. DVDs are pretty crappy looking. If I didn't know better, I'd think the DVD's were being DOWN-scaled lol.

Yes, if you are watching a bluray movie say Hancock vs watching a HD HBO Hancock, the bluray will be better.

the bluray picture will be more solid since you are sending it from its source (player) to your tv with a higher bit rate.

the cable/uverse etc is a signal sent to millions of people to their box to be decoded, plus that signal contains all the other channels. the bluray only caries the disc.

think of it as you have a CD of your favorite song vs listening to that song on FM radio

    the CD will sound cleaner.

I'm not sure if all this 40 inch or larger TV is only good for HD computes.

I purchased my HDTV two years ago and it's a 32 incher, but the clarity over SD on over the air channels is amazing. I can now see the wrinkles, imperfections, etc on peoples faces. I guess that could or couldn't be good for p*rn.

Wow more and more I'm thinking of dropping U-verse now and going back to comcast or DirecTV. I guess I can do a combo of DirecTV and comcast internet. Man such a hassle. :(

What stuff? I have everything hooked up already. For me this is how the order of PQ goes.

    U-verse < upscaled DVD < downloaded HD TV shows < OTA < blu-ray.

Does anyone have u-verse that has fiber to their house instead of like me where it's to the node? I'm guessing because of that last leg is the reason why I'm getting less than stellar HD PQ. At this moment I'm waiting for the 100 visa gift card from U-verse before I switch to anything else.
