This website has begun a campaign to determine where in the U.S., the Simpson's home is! Through the process of elimination they have eliminated 1/3 of the country. They also have a map with clues as to why that state is not where Springfield is! You can even send in your clues! They should explain why each state was eliminated. Of course, eventually they're going to eliminate all the states since the fictional Springfield doesn't actually exist anywhere.
Why hasn't Massachussetts been eliminated? In one episode, at an air show(which I believe was in Springfield), Homer tells Sideshow Bob to "go back to Massachussetts."
Go to the map and click on the state. Oklahoma and a few other states should be eliminated for the same reason as TX.
I can almost guarantee you that it's Kentucky. There's a Springfield, and a Shelbyville a little north of it. There's also a Simpsonville right near Shelbyville.
I'd think that last week's medical marajuana episode would eliminate most of the states, since the doctor looked at the virtual camera and said 'our state has a medical marajuana law.'
States with effective medical mar1juana laws

States with other medical mar1juana laws

Well, whether or not the town in the Simpsons show was based off another town or not is debatable I guess. But certainly based on the things that happen in Springfield during shows makes it impossible to find any real life Springfield that is similar. I doubt you can find a state that has higher than 100 degree summers and seriously deep snow during the winters that also contains several very tall mountains to climb, is bordering an ocean, and contains a humongous gorge. I also think that part of the reason they put that "Kentuckian family" part in the Behind the Laughter episode is BECAUSE of all the speculation on where the city is. They just like messing with their fans who are more obsessed with the show than is good for them. More evidence of that is in the episode when Marge is talking to the Nick Price hotline machine to order the replacement feet for the egg decoration kit (Super Bowl episode). She starts to give the address, and when she gets to the state, she says "Ohiya Maude!" as Maude walks in. They are sick bastards, those writers.
By the way, the state in which Springfield is in has legalized non-Riverboat gambling, so wouldn't that narrow it down considerably? Oh, and it's probably whatever state has a state capital called Capital City and whose state abbreviation is NT (as seen on Homer's driver's license). So, if we're going to bother to eliminate states based on the show, shouldn't we eliminate any state that doesn't have legalized gambling and doesn't have the abbreviation NT? There are many more states that should be eliminated based on things said in various episodes, too, by the way (and Texas could be eliminated much earlier when Grandpa's dead girlfriend mentioned she was haunting a family down in Texas), though Texas would be back in when George Bush moved in across the street and Lisa said their state was one in which George Bush claimed residence (Texas is the only state George Bush has claimed official residence, even though Lisa said there were several).
This proves nothing. At the end of one episode, Homer tries to wrap up the week's adventure by saying soothingly, "Now, let's go home"... ...while sitting on the couch in the living room.
Pretty sure it's Kentucky because they've reffered to it as being the simpsons home in the Behind the laughter and other episodes. But, could be Illinois because it has Springfield and Shelbyville a few miles from it. Capitol City could be Chicago.
Haven't they already said in interviews or something that Springfield is located in the fictional state of North Tacoma?
