No, I don't see how it could even be considered blasphemous.

It got a cease and desist order in the Philippines for the following reason

The ad trivializes the prayer, our Father (Give us this day), and was therefore disapproved.

    It's a little ridiculous to make a Christ-figure of a boxer, but I don't know about blasphemous.

I'm schocked that they didn't use this concept on Lebron, since we are witnesses.

Considering 90% of the Philippines is Christian and also considering Pacquiao is like a god over there I'm surprised there was a cease and desist order from the Philippines.

    Here is the official release:

"Advertisements must respect religious beliefs, and be sensitive to the diverse religions, mores, culture, traditions, characteristics, historical background and identity of the various Filipino communities and uphold traditional Filipino family and social values."

Notice the pose, and how the top ring rope is perpendicular to the turnbuckle, and finally, the light that mysteriously shines upon just him.

    It is clownish.

Yes, it is important to preserve traditional Filipino religious beliefs...that were forced upon them by the Spanish.

There is nothing new about non-Jesus cruciform figures being used in visual culture, though.

Does this mean a bloody massacre of Manny?

You can't be like Jesus, not unless you get brutally tortured to death.

Their statement does not merely protect traditional Filipino religious beliefs, but the beliefs of acgtual Filipinos. As for the conversion of the Philipinnes, that was a long time ago. The Christian Filipinos of today are free to claim or reject Christianity; there's no need to suggest that their faith is somehow illegitimate or unnatural.

Yes, the statement reflects actual beliefs. Why wouldn't it? Further, I was not suggesting their beliefs were illegitimate, I just find a little irony in talking about preserving Filipino traditions when they had already been robbed of most. Obviously, it has been a long time and thus the imposed traditions are essential to Filipino culture - believe me, I know - but that doesn't lessen Spain's crime in my eyes.

One time I was stretching my arms out to the side of my body, and there was something in the background that had an intersection. I must have been being blasphemous.

Alright, you have an ax to grind about Spanish imperialism and I have an ax to grind about religious conversion.
