Now there have been many many post on keeping Head or trading Head. But no poll to see where the majority lie. Let's fix that. We all know the story, trade Head and resign Deke. But what we all want to know is his value. It seems a certain member on this board and myself with buying and selling (ie trading). So lets see what everyone else thinks. Before you make your choice I want you to be as realistic as posible. I want you to make a choice as a buyer. Would you do that trade if you was the GM of the other team. Stats to consider for Head 1st round draft pick (24) $1,962,378 Expiring Contract 6'3" Guard Shooting an all time low 38% FG Shooting average of 35% 3pt (same as last year) 2:1 Assist to TO ratio (same as last year) Averaging half a steal a game (same as last year) Choices: Keep Head, trade someone else (please mention whom). Keep Head, keep current roster. Trade Head for another player of lesser value and skill for cap space and resign Deke. Trade Head for a 1st round. Trade Head for a 2nd round.
I don't understand this clamoring to 'trade Head for a bag of chips' or whatever as if his presence on the roster is hurting the team. I think Luther Head absolutely BLOWS. He might be the worst ball handling and dumbest guard to ever don a Rockets uniform and this is a very respectable list that includes the likes of Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley (the latter quality) and Shandon Anderson (both). If he is expected to play any type of critical role on your team, you suck, as evidenced by the last few years of the Houston Rockets. But to trade him just for the hell of it? No point. He's great as an 11th man, can knock down the occasional wide open 3 in nonplayoff games, and is cheap to boot. No point even discussing it.
Best case is we trade Head and Francis for someone decent - don't know who's available at that level. Realistically, probably only get a 2nd rounder for him. He has his value, but he's too inconsistent/spotty to keep when we have bigger needs. His production against SA was nice, but we're not going to see it often. -Humer
OK, I'll play along. If mgmt doesn't feel like Francis will be able to play anymore, we can waive him and claim medical disability to get his salary taken off the books, allowing us to resign Deke. This can't really happen until his rehab is completely over, though, as a league medical doctor has to agree he can't play anymore, and they probably won't if he hasn't finished the prescribed rehab. So, moving Head for Deke is probably not necessary, as waiving Francis will achieve that. There is no *need* to trade Head this season. You're not going to upgrade anything. And if you think anyone will trade a #1 pick for a 10th man before they even know the draft position of that pick, you're crazy.
I bet there are several teams that would gladly trade for him if he could help them suck to the tune of back to back 50+ win seasons.
I am crazy huh? Or maybe the failure of a poster that kept replying to me in negativity is crazy. Crazy world. hah.
We have to make a trade and we will make a trade. most possible being traded players: Barry: He might want to go to a better team and Rockets like to dump the players that they pursued a lot. Artest: not playing well here, he'd move on because of his contact year. He can give Rockets value back. Head: valuable asset, trade friendly contract. If I am Morey, I'd trade Artest to prepare for the future.
I meant "you're crazy" as in third person, referring to anyone. didn't mean to single you out, besides i'm not even sure what you voted for. just so you know: jeopardE is cf.net's resident stock market wizard. He'll talk like that. He's right about how Morey should increase the value of his assets or wait to trade Head. But you were also right about how other GMs are going to attempt to buy low. Maybe you should just let the argument you had in another thread die, rather than start a new thread about it. fwiw: I seriously doubt Morey will let a GM low ball him on Head, unless Francis starts playing again.
I voted the number 3: "Trade Head for another player of lesser value and skill for cap space and resign Deke." but do not know how do you do this trade? We get cash for cap space?
I see no reason to trade him unless we can package him with another player and/or picks for a real roster upgrade. He's an insurance policy at this point.
