How Long Do We Have To Wait for a Decent PG and a Big Man?

It has been years since we had a decent PG, probably since Cassel. Recent PG like Lue, Jackson and many others came in as a part of a trade and not really being the focus of the trade. Even crappy Alston came in with a trade for Mike James after a Stan VG recommendation and then James was back and out again.

It was sad to watch Billups last night and not wonder how we can don't have someone even half his caliber that provides both game managemnet and scoring punch.

We have not drafted a decent Big man with some athletic ability since YAO (unathletic but good) and it is obvious that all the ROX starters are slow like hell and the only fast person on the team is Brooks at 6 feet. Watching this team sometimes is like watching a game in slow motion especially under the basket.

"WIN NOW" three years ago never mounted to anything and today we are closer to "rebuild soon" than Management thinks. I am sick and tired of Management Pulling the David Carr on us claiming that Alston is the best thing for this team or that we do not need a backup C because we do very well against other teams when we go small and I wouldn't be very happy with the one dimentional 42 year old Mutombo coming back to play as a Center and watch him move in slow motion like the rest of the team.

So who do you suggest we get?

Who do we give up to get them?

Take in consideration that you have give up something to get something and also how will they affect the chemistry and flow of the team.

Many ppl, including me think that the team needs Mutombo, but the owner seems to refuse to pay the money before Luther can be traded to release the cap. As for the PG, Brook may be ok if our start players are doing their jobs. Right now TMac can not be on the court, Yao is a star one night, and just a role player another one, Artest can not put the ball into the ocean, the team is just another NBA team in USA, nothing more, or less.

if you look at the roster it is filled with guards and PF's and that is what we have to give to get them.

we obviously did not need Dorsey especially when we have Scolandry and Hayes

Alston needs to learn his role, get the ball down the court and safely into the hands on Yao, Tracy, or Ron. He has done a poor job of that, imo. He has made too many lazy and dumb passes, probably because in his mind he is a sg. Smart passes make a good pg.

We have oodles of quality big men.

I don't think its realistic to expect great players at very position. If what we have can learn to play together, that should be enough. There's no formula for how long it takes a team to gell. Especially when a couple starters miss significant time.

I feel your pain, but Rafer hasn't been the source of our sub-par performance this year. The blame currently lies on the shoulders of our "big 3."

    This.

Oh and you are forgetting Stevie (if he can come back, I think he can be effective) and my man Bob Sura. :D

Bob was such a beast pg, if only he never got that injury

    EXCELLENT thread!!!

    1. Backup center (Muttombo)
    2. Starting PG (requires Morey's magic)
    3. Head, Steve, Alston and Dorsey can be traded. Maybe one of our 3 PFs? But I really like everyone of them.
    4. (?!) Chemistry and Adelman!!

IF we want to, it's pretty easy for us to rebuild. Both Yao and TMac(expiring in 2010) have huge trade values.

Trade Yao for Roy and Oden
Trade TMac for Dirk if dallas wants to rebuild, or some young guys from Chicago.

So you may have Oden/Dirk/Battier/Roy/Brooks or Oden/Landry/Deng/Roy/Brooks

There is really nothing we can do about Alston. Its easy to play against Billups yesterday and be like "man, we need a good PG". But you can't just trade for guys like Billups willy nilly. We'd have to give up Tmac or Yao, which would be stupid (as bad as Tmac is playing right now, he always gets better at the end of the year and always brings it in the playoffs).

Right now, I'm fine with having a 2-headed PG in Alston and Brooks. Brooks, the scorer off the bench. Alston, the controlled PG that runs the offense the best.

    Dirk, Oden, AND Roy?

Lol Portland would never trade Oden and Roy for anyone we have.

You would be the worst GM ever if you think it would be a good idea for Portland to make that trade. Lets try to remember that it should work out for both teams, not just us. I'd like a Tracy for Kobe or Lebron trade, but there is a better chance I'd be our starting PG than that happening.
