    Is he hurt or something?

I felt like when we had the 8 point lead at the end of the 4th we could've used a defensive lineup.

    Discuss.

the fronting defense / zoning of yao makes having a PF who can flash to the high post for a jumper, or make a quick cut to the rim for a layup extreemly important.

hayes can't to either. scola and landry are great at both.

to over simplify, we held them to 91 points. our defense played well enough to win. hayes wouldn't have made a big difference on that end but he would've been a huge liability to our already weak offense.

I think chunk could have slowed down granger in those final seconds or at least stayed with murphy and put a hand in his face

The coach that decided to put an entire team on 'stefan' curry thinks we played horrible Defense,But landry and scola demonstrated that they were snatching every rebound. What can you do? Our shots didn't go in, theirs did. We are a horrible 3 point shooting team as of right now, hopefully battier's presence will give us a respectable %. Because I know rafer is not going to stop shooting. =)

We stunk offensively in the 4th quarter. 5-18 from the field, and 5 turnovers. But our defense wasn't so great either -- we gave up 10-21 shooting, including 4 threes, in the fourth.

During the game, I thought Adelman made the right choice with the players he had on the court, except maybe he should have put Chuck into the game on that final defensive possession. In retrospect, we probably couldn't have played much worse offensively -- so matching small against small might have made more sense.

This was not some matchup decision by Rick Adelman. If Adelman plays matchup basketball, Chuck would have played tonight when Scola was stinking up the joint on defense.

He had the rotations with Chuck coming in for Yao and Landry coming in for Scola. When Chuck didn't play the entire second half last game, you pretty much knew Adelman was ready to give all those minutes to Landry. The only reason Chuck was in the rotation this season is because Landry wasn't rebounding the ball early. Rick Adelman is an offensive coach. Always has been, always will be.

This loss was completely due to his coaching. Had Jeff Van Gundy been here, he would have exiled Luis Scola to the end of the bench when he ran away from TJ Ford on defense. I watch a lot of basketball and I can't remember when I have ever seen a pro ball player run away from their defender like Scola did last night. The guy is a total joke on defense.

Excellent post,The last game we lost Rick elected to give landry and scola the bulk of the miuntes when they were getting killed by dirk and terry on the pick and roll when scola left terry wide open even when they told him when the timeout was called that they were running pick and roll and to watch terry.

The spurs loss was similar when they were running pick and roll and matt bonner kept getting loose from landry and he hit those consecutive 3 pointers, after both games Adelman plays chuck and we beat new orleans and then we go on a 3 game winning streak after the dalls loss where he didn't play chuck again but soon as he reinstates chuck we start winning again.

Adelman is in love with offense,Defense is this teams calling card tho.

I am as big of a Hayes supporter here as anyone else. Last night I agreed with him being on the bench. Personally, those last few positions where they subbed Yao out for a PF on defensive possessions I would have liked to see Hayes out there. But fair enough.

though i understand why hayes didn't play in the fourth when we needed stops, i was thinking the same thing in the last couple of possessions. however, i realized that if the rockets successfully played defense, they would have to burn a timeout to get hayes out of there on offense or just live with playing 5 on 4 late in a close game.

I agree that Chuck shouldnt get huge minutes, especially vs. a team that doesnt have a good low post scorer like the Pacers. But to sub in Scola for Yao as a defensive substitute made no sense. Scola played great last night on the boards, but how you dont bring in Chuck late in the game made no sense.

Scola isnt any better on D then Yao. He will jump out on jump shooting bigs, but they regularly fake and go right by him. Put in Chuck, and hope he doesnt get the rebound and get intentionally fouled if your concern was his free throw shooting.

I would say adelman mistakes where 2, actually 3.

No Yao in the defensive posession, or to be more accurate, no defensive big.

No Scola in the offensive posession, he could get open more than Landry and was keeping alive a lot of posessions all night long.

No set play at the end, and this is a BIG coaching mistake, you have the last posession, you have the ball in your hands with 14 seconds, you have a big man that cannot be fouled because he makes his ft, and you have a SF that can post up any sf, YET WE HAD NO PLAY DESIGNED! lame..
Offensive coach my ass, put in popovitch, larry brown, or any winner defensive minded coach, and they all would at least diagram a play that would have put Yao, Artest or Scola in a low post up situation.

Adelman put the ball in rafer hands... what can i say to that?

Adelman refused to play Chuck until he figures out whether Chuck's lack of offense is mostly mental or physical.

i think he's just too lazy to get some shots in on offense.

have you seen his free throw stroke? i bet he has never ever practiced his free throw shooting at all. he's just too soft mentally.

Forget this Hayes needs to make up his mind. Its impossible for Rockets to get a good seed if Hayes takes it so soft on offense.

Hayes has been traded to Miami together with Tmac, for Marion, Blount and some picks.
