I just read on www.megadeth.com that Dave Mustaine had a drug relapse, and while in some Texas rehab center had some accident and horribly injured one of his arms. IF he is ever able to play guitar again, it will be in a year or longer. For this reason, he and the rest of Megadeth have decided to disband and go their separate ways.

While the band ended on a somewhat sour note (Risk and The World Needs a Hero did not sell well), the band was undoubtedly one of the world's great heavy metal successes. I love all their albums, and was hoping they could continue to put out solid music after Dave and the rest of the band went straight and got off the controlled substances. I guess the temptations of the road and success were too much for them. This was, afterall, partly why Mustaine was kicked out of Metallica.

But I don't want this thread to be a long strand of accusations and "I told you so"s. I want this to be a tribute thread to a tremendous band. Sweating Bullets is still one of my all time favorite songs to hear live, and it saddens me deeply to know I will never (most likely) get a chance to hear it performed again.

So, all Megadeth fans, post your memories, stories or even just your favorite songs by this once great band. I would love to hear them.

Incidentally, I have heard rumors since the announced breakup that Dave Ellison might be selected as the new bassist for Metallica. I thought that would be cool.

They were truly one of the four GREAT metal bands from the 80's (with apologies to Pantera and Sepultura). I'm sad to see them go - I own a few of their albums (So Far, So Good, So What being my fave) and I just might give them a sampling tonight.

Hopefully Mustaine can lick his problems.

I agree, TheFreak. I have always loved Cryptic Writings. Unfortunately, for a lot of Megadeth fans I know, they view that album as the beginning of the downslope for them. I find it to be one of their finest works.

    Favorite Megadeth songs:

    Sweating Bullets
    Diadems
    Architecture of Aggression
    This was my Life
    Use the Man
I'll Get Even (it helps that I can play this song on my bass :))
She Wolf (another kick ass live song)
    Holy Wars
Five Magics (probably in the top 3)
    Lucretia
    Seven
    Time (Beginning and End together)
    Prince of Darkness
Burning Bridges (probably the best song on their last album)
    Recipe for Hate....Warhorse
    In my Darkest Hour
    Peace Sells
    I Ain't Superstitious

Probably one of my top 4 or 5 concerts of all time was when I saw Megadeth at the International Ballroom in Houston during the Cryptic Writings tour. They played every song off that album except FFF and Have Cool, Will Travel.

I hope Dave gets his life back together as well. Unfortunately, he seems to have a thick skull. Having clinically died on an operating table once due to an overdose, he still has trouble laying off the drugs and alcohol. He says on the Megadeth website that he plans on spending much more time being a husband and father now that he has quit. I hope this is true. I wasn't even aware he had a wife and kids. It's a rough time right now for the great metal bands of the 80's. James Hetfield has to go into rehab, and now this.

So you must have "So Far, So Good, So What," Megadeth's third album, on which you can find "In My Darkest Hour." :D

I thought they started going downhill with Youthenasia(sp?). Rust In Peace is my favorite.
