The Sporting News Daily reported today that the Knicks have not activated Cuttino Mobley due to a heart condition that was discovered during his physical. Coach Mike D'Antoni is "anxious" about Mobley's status. Is this the end of Cuttino's career? I still think he's good enough to play off the bench for most teams, including possibly the Rockets (replacing the no-show "Franchise") at the end of the pine. Any more information? - CF
Hmm if that is true, it could void the whole trade. It would be cool if he got bought out and we could sign him on for the minimum .
i thought the trade was completed yesterday and Mobley has been cleared to play, apparently has condition is asymptomatic, the dude has never missed practice or games he just flat loves to ball.... what sad day it would be
The trade is now official. The Knicks waived the physical requirement and will figure out what to do with Mobley. He will take more tests after the holidays.
The Knicks discovered Mobley's heart problem on Monday but waived the physical requirement so that the trade could be finalized. The Knicks got what they wanted. They dumped salary and got expiring contracts. I don't think they're too terribly concerned if Mobley never ends up playing since they would let him go in 2010 anyway to free up cap room.
i don't understand why they are all of a sudden concerned about mobley's heart condition. as another poster pointed out, this condition was detected as early as the era when he played with the rockets and it's never stopped him from playing. plus at the guard positions the knicks are super thin with the departure of crawford, i think they were counting on mobley to fill the role regardless of how much he has declined.
i'm fairly certain this had no bearing at all on the decision. they would just as soon sign me to start at the 2 if it meant clearing room for 2010.
Interesting. I wonder if they are trying to get out of paying Mobley (make insurance pay) or inherit a medical exception? Don't know why though.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/26/sports/basketball/26knicks.html?em It appears they are just being precautious. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/sports_blog/2008/11/dynamics-of-a-d.html
How dysfunctional are the Clippers that they never discovered this heart condition themselves? Don't teams give their players a physical at the start of every season?
Sounds like the Knicks were using his extant (and hopefully benign) condition to leverage as much as they could out of the Clippers. Shrewd business sense by Walsh, but, as the article says, LA saw right through it.
http://www.nba.com/2008/news/features/john_schuhmann/11/27/eastern.insider/index.html Looks like he be playing, damn, i thought he could be bought out, and then a miracle happen with him and SF3 fully recover and both plays for rox.
