It is so effective, Invented by Eduardo Najera, the fronting defense has been the most effective way to shut down Yao Ming no matter what size the defender is. My question is why doesn't everyone do it?
they don't need to do it throughout the game, trick the rockets into easy entry passes for the first 3 quarters. Late in the 4th, start fronting and the Rockets go into panic mode. They waste 20 seconds trying to make entry passes only to hoist up a horrible shot. Happens too often and Rockets choke in the 4th
My question isn't why don't other teams front Yao more often - it's why aren't we better at attacking a fronting team? The middle of the paint should be wide open if we can't get it to Yao since his man is out in front of him - dribble drive, pass into the cutter, something has to work! Hell, they shut us down by fronting Yao AND Artest.
Dude, the question here isn't how to beat the fronting of Yao. It's how do you beat ANY fronting defense? Imagine if it wasn't Yao in there, and it was Chuck Hayes instead. How would you play then? Fronting puts the defense at a DISADVANTAGE, not the opposite, as you lose interior protection.
Because you need a player that is: 1. Strong 2. Quick 3. Liked by Referees Not every teams has that. Also it is not just the fronting ,it is the little guy that is coming behind Yao Ming.
actually every team without a good centre fronts yao. the only players u wont see fronting yao are shaq, howard, big z and the likes
Rockets are allergic to driving it seems, T-Mac won't do it, Artest does it very little, the only guy that seems to drive consistently is Rafer but the end result is usually a bricked floater or a blocked shot.
Because they want us to go to Yao as an option. Yao is struggling and can't convert easy buckets, so why not let us go to him? Sure, he may get 22 points, but what impact does he really have?
Which is exactly why once Yao is fronted, you have to COMPLETELY ignore him on offense. People think that fronting is somehow the greatest defense scheme ever invented, but with good execution, you can easily pick it apart from all angles. We're just too stupid to see that, as we KEEP ON trying to throw the ball into Yao.
Agree with Bustnani, they don't let the rockets adapt to it and just suprise them with it, but that was tonight's game, the question is why dont other teams do it as much, even in the 4th. I think its because not every team has the length and quickness to do it. One guy with length and quickness isn't enough, you need others to rotate in, disrupt Yao also from behind AND disrupt the guy making the entry pass so they overthrow the pass or don't pass at all.
NO, if you watch the game tonight, the exact opposite happened. The likes of rafer and artest were hesitant to lob the ball to Yao because there is that little guy who is trying to make a move. Even though the guy is like 12 feet away, they were still hesitant to lob the ball. I don't understand why.
This is exactly the reason that I predicted a 4th quarter collapse. Dump it to Yao = stupid, lazy and Lose.
MD has a point, they can always do something like have someone cut to the paint, hit THEM with the pass and that leaves Yao with an open lane to the rim, the guy in the paint just has to hit him with a short bounce pass. that's just one option though. They aren't decisive enough and hold the ball. If you can't lob it in then swing it around immediately, the defense ain't moving if they know you're stuck there.
Shane and/or Battier couldn't attack the sagging defense and Ron couldn't exploit a PG in the post. Having someone who could do that would make their fronting irrelevant. We have a player like that but he didn't play today.
when yao was fronted, every1 got panic. Artest tried really hard to give the ball to Yao in the last few minutes. they have to trust each other, make quick decisions, scola can shoot a jumper, battier open 3, ... do not make our offense so predictable ...
