I agree. I don't think Steve is at that level. I just thought it was unfair to give Bird, Magic, etc. total credit for their teams success.
They are all amazing players, but they wouldn't have been in the finals without other good players.

    that's cool WinkFan,

You know what, though. You could have mentioned Bob McAdoo as a key role player for Magic. Everyone forgets him.

TheFreak is right and so are you. Magic changed the game and had role players to distance himself from the pack, except for the fact Bird had role players, too, to keep pace. There is no doubt, had Bird or Magic not existed the other would have won 8 titles in a row, except for that one title that freaking Hakeem ripped out of Magic's hands in 86.

    unbeatable.

    Here's another thought:

If Wink isn't Michael or Shaq, could he be Scottie or Penny? And could we get a Superstar without trading Steve?

I know what you're thinking, but Scottie and Penny were pretty damn good for the Bulls and Magic. Even if they went to hell after that.

If there's one thing that will be done next year.....I hope it's the change of the PLAYBOOK.

I don't ever recall a team having a playbook that totally consisted of ISOs and dribbling out the shot clock?

And a different Coach can make a difference.....The Celtics.

Well, it is just amazing how things are continuing to go from bad to worst. There are a number of areas that can be addressed but I am sticking to the Steve Francis is not a point guard issue. Yes by half time he had 18 of the the rockets 29 points or something like that. Again I am hardly impressed. Yes he is playing without Mobes and others and many are shooting badly tonight. However I did count 8 possessions where Steve did not pass to the open man on the pick and roll with later ended up with a poor shoot attempt, or that bonehead play he had at the end of the half. It is like he is addicted to that one on one stuff. As for Rudy, well that is for another post.

All I can say if Andre Miller was playing that game the Rockets would have lost by thirty. Andre Miller is only helpful if his teammates are good. The Rockets were shooting 25% in the first half. And I don't care what anyone says, Steve was giving his teammate open shots all game long. I don't even know how many times he gave Torres, Morris, or Griffin wide open shots only for them to brick it. A player like Andre Miller couldn't single-handedly keep the Rockets in it like Steve did for the better part of that game. He worked his a$$ off all night with absolutely NO help from his teammates in the first half and managed to keep the Rockets within striking distance until the end.

I just thought I'd stick my toe in here a second and then let you folks carry on. Sampson beat the Lakers in '86 with a shot that I saw and still don't believe after all these years. He was damn good that year, and we wouldn't have had the chance to face the Celtics in the finals if not for Ralph. Dream was a force of nature, but he sure as hell didn't get us there alone.

I think the Magic announcers said it best tonight:

"At least one guy came to play tonight" for Houston.

dckid couldn't be more right. if andre is in steve's place tonight we lose by 30 or more. yes steve could have probably passed it on a few occasions but more often than not he found the open player in order for them to brick it. we didn't have one guy who could shoot besides steve tonight and you still wanted him to pass? c'mon tonight he carried it us, seems odd to want to bash him.

Good point about Andre. However, it is not the game I am worried about. I am worried about the offense that Wink is running that rely on such a heavy load of outside shots. Some would want to blame Rudy instead or also. I just do not want to get all comfortable thinking my pg is all world and he is not. He could be though, and that is why I continue to call for improvement.

Doc, believe me, if it was an issue of capability, we would not be playing that way.

    Roc Paint,

you certainly have contributed a lot to this conversation:

hmm, brilliant. worthy of a pulitzer, no doubt.

or, i love the response earlier about the list of players having no heart...

    allen iverson? no heart?

    pinche idiot.

    1. The bulls letting Brand go, was not very smart in my opinion.
maybe, never ever was a little strong. Michael was drafted by the bulls, so they used their noggin, at least on one occasion.

    2. As far as Iverson goes, I said most, not all the players on your list.

    3. If your head wasn't so far up crispee's ass, maybe you would be able to understand some of the things you read around here. idiot
