Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Ricky Davis For Kenny Thomas, Kelvin Cato and Torontos #14 pick Cavs feel they cant afford Ricky Davis and Ilgauskas is injury prone yet they are not a playoff team. We are a playoff and we need a legit center and i think hes worth the risk. I also like Ricky Davis hes super athletic and a pretty good defender. Kenny is trade bait i dont feel he will be a vital role in our upcoming glory years. Cato also needs to go even though i liked the way he played this season sort of. Well tell me what you all think.
It sounds ok, i mean it fills the void at center, BUT i think they would be better off sending packaging a deal with Thomas and someone else to Seattle for Shard and then drafting a center with the #14 pick. Ilgauskas is too risky.
As much as we could use the Shard, we could never afford him under the salary cap rules and still manage to keep Steve Francis and Eddie Griffin over the long term. You probably will argue that Mo Taylor is expendable, but we need him at PF at least until the Griffin fills out and learns the NBA game. Also, I think we need to find out our draft position before we get crazy with trade ideas. We might get a pick high enough to get Ming, making Zydrunas Ilgauskus (and his huge salary) unnecessary. I do believe that, if we get Toronto's pick this year, we need to package it and Kenny Thomas (love ya, K.T., but....) to move into the #7 to #10 range to pick up a center or SF, whichever we don't draft with our own pick....or package them all so long as we get Ming.
You guys who hated the Glen Rice deal, should hate any deal involving Ilgauskas. Rice may have foot problems this year, but Ilgauskas has had them his whole career. There's a reason Ilgauskas' name begins with the letters "Il".
Let's exclude Ming and say any one of the following are a possibility for next season: Drobnjak, Ilgauskas, Marcus, Ely, Borchardt. Unless the price is too steep, I like Drobnjak over this field. Since the Sonics have both Drobnjak and Jerome James, maybe they'd part with one of them. James blocks more shots but Peja has more range on his shot. (James has a higher FG% but it's for the same reason Cato leads the NBA in FG%). Cleveland and John Lucas are going to have some interesting decisions with Z, Mihm, Diop, Doleac, & Hill in their front court. Add a high draft pick and (with a healthy Z) they seem to have an abundance of big men. Although it may be quantity over quality.
Drobnjak is not active enough inside. Barely moves to grab a rebound or play some defense. Has a nice jumper, but that's it. We already have a Drobnjak, in Jason Collier.
There's NO WAY the Rockets go after Ilgauskas. First of all, there is a huge injury risk with him. But even larger than Big Z or his injury risk is his GIGANTIC contract. He's making the freaking MAX!!!!!!!! I'm not paying the remainder of his $90M contract! However, IF (and it's a big if) the Rockets could convince Seattle to take Kenny, Cato, and the #14th pick for Rashard, we could conceivably afford the hometown kid. I could see the Sonics signing-and-trading Rashard for 7yrs/~$70M. If you discount the $7M per season we're dumping with Cato, we'd only be paying Rashard $3M more per season. Figure that it would cost more to keep Cato and to re-sign KT (who wouldn't even be in the rotation). However, I doubt the Sonics would take Cato (unless Lewis refused to re-sign with them), seeing as how they have Calvin Booth already as their "overpriced center of the future."
That's really smart. Let's bring another over paid, injury plagued player to a team that already has that problem.
Doesn't do much for us,because we can't afford to give up KT,Taylor is still injured and Griffin needs to work a lot on his post game.Ricky Davis is a good player but I would rather get Butler or Woods as a 3.
