yes, it's a true story that on the air the other night, Mike Breen asked Jeff Van Gundy what he would do to improve the Rockets' Offense.

It is a true story that Jeff Van Gundy, given a hypothetical question, gave a hypothetical response.

he said what he would do, and clutchfans.net spends the rest of the week trying to figure out if it happened this year, or in previous seasons, or whether he ever said it at all.

it helps to read an entire one page thread thouroughly

I guess a lot of people here don't watch the games broadcast on espn or watch the Rockets at all.

Ummm no, i didn't and it's not a stupid idea. The majority of Rafer's shots are jack ups that he shoots because the offense isn't setting up anything, so Rafer just lets it fly. Going to Yao the majority of the time will cut back on those jack up shots because either Yao will get a high percentage shot, or he'll get doubled and pass it to someone who's going to get a high percentage shot. I mentioned Rafer because he's the one who chucks those shots the most, tmac does it too, but he hits more of them. There's plenty of shots to go around even if Yao shots 20 times a game, since he shots over 50%, itws not a bad thing to let him shoot that much. Plus, you mention guys like Shane and Barry, its not like those guys are our second and third options and need their touches. A few shots a game for them is fine. Tmac and Artest need touches, but given their percentages, they don't need a lot. This allows Artest to concentrate more on rebounding and defense and tmac on picking his spots instead of being forced to shoot bad shots. the only guys who shoot a good percentage consistently are Scola and Landry, and those guys get their shots off of putbacks or short passes from broken plays, those opportunities will never end, so he's not taking anything away.

Just because Yao shoots more doesn't means he'll always be shooting. The point is he's the most consistent and efficient scorer out there, so you have to start it with him, which opens up everything. The more you get the ball to him the more good things will happen, sometimes that means him shooting 20 plus shots and going off for 40 pts, other nights it may mean him attracting constant double and triple teams and getting everyone else numerous easy shots.

and besides Yao being more agressive overall, he made one big adjustment. He usually bangs into the post defender and bounces off of him and then goes for the shot. This allows the defender to recover his footing as Yao bounces off, which enables the defender to go up and contest the shot at the same time that Yao goes up. Since the Washington game, he's been leaning into the defender and driving more into him, without bouncing off, so the defender is always trying to keep his own balance while trying to guard Yao at the same time, so he's not ready to contest the shot when Yao goes up. Yao is also not gathering himself to jump off two feet when he's within arm's length of the basket, which takes up time, he just leans in and put his arms up to lay the ball.

I'm guessing Ron had a lot to do with this. Although Yao has done this in the past, he hasn't done it this consistently and I think Ron's been in his ear every game since to keep it up. Who else would know about using your body against defenders like ron ron?

When Yao worked out with Hakeem that one time, Hakeem kept getting on Yao to lean into the defender on shots because Yao kept doing sissy pump fakes, etc.
